Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

If you've been a yo-yo dieter for years or if you can eat a pound of pasta at one sitting, The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet may very well be an eye opener. In simple--but never condescending--language, it explains the roots of carbohydrate cravings and teaches you how to normalise your insulin levels to prevent future food binges. Regulated insulin levels in turn help to temper serotonin levels, so food cravings and mood swings are prevented. The authors, both research scientists (one a health psychologist, the other a pathologist), have lost and kept off a total of 200 pounds between them. They've based this book on nearly a decade's worth of research, during which they've helped nearly 80 per cent of their patients lose weight and keep it off for at least a year.

They explain that carbohydrate addicts most commonly crave popcorn, breads, bagels, rice, pasta, potatoes, ice cream, chocolate, pie, biscuits, crackers, cake, fruit and fruit juice, crisps, and pretzels. A questionnaire at the beginning of the book determines if you're indeed a carbohydrate addict, and if so, to what extent. (For those readers whose quiz doesn't indicate addiction, but who are bothered by their food cravings, the authors recommend a doctor's visit for an explanation.) The book includes a diet plan with dozens of easy recipes, a chart of the carbohydrate content of many common foods, and lists of binge triggers to watch for. The most appealing part of the diet--and one reason that it wins raves from its followers--is its once-a-day reward meal, which allows you to eat anything you want. The authors also offer helpful tips for incorporating the diet away from home, such as at parties and restaurants.--Amazon.com

Eureka! 29 Mar 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I had been struggling with the 'weight watchers' diet for some time. Having lost 2 stone I reached a plateau at 12 stone 7lbs. I tried the 'Atkins' malarkey - complete disaster, impossible to follow for any length of time due to boredom, inflexibility, carbohydrate cravings and diabolical constipation (!) I managed to lose another 7lbs, but got 'stuck' again. Thank goodness for the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, I had already decided that my problem was with carbohydrate, thanks to my 'Atkins' experience, but needed a plan I could bear to follow long term and this is it. I am enjoying my food, in satisfying quantities, and the plan allows some flexibility for attending functions. Best of all, I am losing weight again albeit slowly (half to three quarters of a pound weekly) I only have 18 pounds left to lose now, but on this plan I know I can do it this year. I recommend this book to anyone who has lost the will to carry on with an unsuitable diet. I don't suppose it will work for everyone, but it's worth a try.

This book changes the way you percieve food and lets you be in control and not the thoughts at the back of your mind saying "just one then i'll stop", or "I eat xyz tonight and restart the diet tomorrow" .. get a grip this kind of pattern only gets stronger as well as making you fatter during the process!

This diet lets you lose weight whilst eating your favourite food once a day, it's great. i've been on other diets such as the Atkins, which makes your breath smells and leaves you stressed out when you cant find food which contains only protien, and in the end the cravings of carbohydrates come back to get you and you gain even more weight by eating the food you love so much when you decide to have a break from the diet. The detox diet makes you have cravings for meat which sucks. The bill philips body of life makes you eat even more and makes you crave for fried food.

This diet is the one and only diet that actually stops your cravings and lets you get on with life knowing that you are losing weight whilst eating the food you love without feeling guilty and worthless.

The only reason why i am praising this book, because its a small price to pay for a future that is bright for people like me who is over weight.

The Chocolate Diet! 13 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
No food is banned! This isnt a diet, its a lifestyle! Healthy eating, and so far I've lost 1.5 stones *and* regularly eat an entire pack of cadburys chocolate fingers every night!!! (Maybe that bit isnt so healthy - but its my choice!). Double chins - vanishing. Waistline - down 3 inches (hello old suits!). No more hunger pangs mid-afternoon. No more falling asleep after lunch. Quite remarkable, logically captain, this so-called-diet makes perfect sense.

Good book, condition wasn't bad, but writing in the book is a very big no-no and should be advised in the product description.
