Because this book starts with a good overview of the many low-carb books currently on the market, I think this should have been the first book I bought when I started my low-carb "diet". It's clearly written and answers many questions that invariably come up when you begin low-carbing. The recipes are simple, yet delicious; and obviously developed by someone who loves food and understands the protein/carb relationship fist-hand. A terrific starting point!

I have been an Atkins dieter for over two years and have always been frustrated over the lack of resources available for low carbohydrate dieters. Ms. McCullough has taken the boredom and limited variety out of low-carb cooking and made it exciting and great tasting. Her book is just as much a guidebook as it is a cookbook. You will feel as though she is a personal tutor in the study of low-carb cooking. The recipes are fabulous. The cheesecake recipe is delicious and successfully fooled my high-carb eating family. Her recipes are masterful. She has brought a much needed fresh approach to low carb dieting!

If you're looking for a good value, low-carb cookbook then I could recommend this one. It is a genuinely good cookery book, the author is a food editor and it shows - it contains recipes you would choose to use even if you were not on a low-carb program!
I found it helpful to read her own story (she is a food editor and on low-carb for life thanks to a blood-sugar problem), the tips interspersed between the recipes were terrific and easy to absorb. The real-life advice showed up and glowed out -- unlike some of the other low-carb writers who you suspect have just jumped on a bandwagon. Fran obviously knows our weak points, the tips such as what to eat if you are craving a certain type of food i.e. crunchy, salty, sweet or mashed potato were a diet-saver for me and she gives dinner party and special occasion recipes that friends would never know were low-carb.
The only slight draw-back is that it is an American book - but she doesn't use many uniquely US ingredients without suggesting alternatives. A good buy that will get USED in my opinion.
