Book Description

2 July 2012
This book is about my son's journey with type I diabetes and my own journey with aggressive breast cancer. It is about how I linked type I diabetes with epilepsy and how this helped me link cancer with epilepsy as well. I modified the traditional ketogenic diet used at Johns Hopkins Medical Center to treat epilepsy. I then used my own version of the diet to make my breast cancer tumor disappear in about two weeks. It is also about using my modified ketogenic diet for my son who is a type I diabetic, and him being able to eat without needing any insulin and without doing any calorie restrictions. This is my diet of hope -along with the research that comes from my heart- that I am sharing with you. "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." ~Hippocrates

About the Author

I am just a regular girl with a very soft spot for sick children and with a very analytical mind...what characterizes me the most is that when I set my mind on doing something, I don't give up until I succeed. I love to learn, I am self motivated and I cannot help it, I am a leader. I am a firm believer that if there is a will there is a way, and if you believe you can achieve something, you will. I created my own -optimized for health- ketogenic diet after facing aggressive breast cancer. As per described in my book, I starved the cancer using my ketogenic diet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good. More like this please. 27 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A personal account of adopting a ketogenic diet which is a very difficult diet to implement with major obstacles that are not easily resolved so, if you can bring yourself to believe in this approach (it is not mainstream), these insights into real life experiences are valuable.

It's more about her cancer than the diabetic son which receives little narrative.

Alongside medical textbooks we also need peoples personal accounts which can help us make more sense of complex and controversial issues. Self publishing is thankfully enabling more of this and the serious student of medicine should devour these books. Doctors are highly constrained but beyond our core of tutored material are revelations, innovations and theories waiting to be acknowledged and progressed. Or discarded; not every trendy idea has legs. But we must keep researching and reading around our subject and developing a much bigger toolkit than pills and potions.

5.0 out of 5 stars an interesting read. Really helpful 23 Mar 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I read this book in one night. I couldn't put it down. I found it really encouraging. It contains her personal experiences and also pulls together a lot of the research which is out there online but you have to sift through a lot of junk to find. If you want to see the data first hand, there are enough webpage references to keep you reading all year! As the author is not a medical proffessional, she can't go into deatails of doses of suppliments but she has a really supportive facebook group for those following the diet. There is a short recipe section which would benefit from expansion, or even a whole recipe book :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring story: needs an editor 4 Feb 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Elaine Cantin is obviously an impressive woman, and what she has achieved is impressive. But it is clear that English is not her native language (search her out on You Tube) and I think she self-published and saved money by not paying an editor. (If that isn't true, Elaine, you were cheated!)

But if you can get past all that, the story is impressive and gives great hope.
