About the Author
Michael Counsell is the author of 2000 Years of Prayer, A Basic Bible Dictionary, Every Pilgrim's Guide to the Journeys of the Apostles and Every Pilgrim's Guide to England's Holy Places. Recently retired from parish ministry he now lives in Birmingham, occasionally serving churches in the Diocese of Europe.

This book of prepared sermons is super - just right to start the ball going, I read them often - then put the book away and write my own sermon.
The starting point is helpful for that is often the hardest part, then my sermon comes and can be nothing like the one in the Preachers Companion, but the start was made!

Our church as recently had its Vicar retire and when we cannot get clergy to hold a service churchwardens have to take a service. This book has already proved it usefulness.

Twice a month our local church worships in the B.C.P. Morning Prayer format. On other Sundays, when the priest is present, we use Common Worship Eucharist in a contemporary format.
The C.P.C. book reviewed here is a valuable homily source in this parish for lay led worship along-side Susan Sayers' "Feeding on God's Word," which I would also recommend as a must have in your church-warden's bookcase.
The contents are topical, pithy,relevent and comprehensible.
So my mantra would be, "Buy it, use it, live it!"
