Product Description

Review

' A comprehensive and and absorbing survey of the enrie canal network of the British Isles '
--Canals & Rivers (June 2009)

"Anyone with an interest in Britain's canals, as well as those who travel them by boat, will find this an attractive and engaging addition to the coffee-table."
--Yachting & Boating World (April 2009)

'The text could be in Cyrillic script and you wouldn't feel short-changed. The book is lovely. Try to get someone to buy it for you, because it probably isn't going to turn up in the second-hand book section behind the Town Hall in the near future.'
--Berkhamsted Living (Spring 2010)

'There's a sense of easy pace that suits the book ideally to its subject. You can imagine reading it while sprawled on a narrowboat making leisurely progress along the canal.'
--Tring Living (Spring 2010)

Lots of great detail about all the main canals extant in the country, including maps and landscape and other features interest.

Text small - could be a problem for some.

Bit disappointed it didn't include more lost canals, and canalised waterways e.g. of Eastern England as they're all a valuable part of the history, and one might say it's not a 'complete gude' without them. But overall still an excellent book and very welcome addition.

A valuable resource 14 April 2010
A very valuable handbook for canal lovers, beautifully illustrated. The only niggle is that it is not always clear which end of the canal the writer is starting from.
