About the Author

Martin Dorey is a writer and surfer. He lives on the North Devon coast with his wife and daughters and Pootle, a 28-year-old Volkswagen camper van.



When he's not fixing up Pootle for weekends away, mucking about with the kids, catching waves or pretending to work, he goes fishing. He is very, very bad at it. His family understands. No one expects sea bass for tea any more.



Sarah Randell is Food Director of Sainsbury's Magazine and previously worked as food editor for thirteen of Delia Smith's cookery books.



Sarah is contributing recipes and expert guidance on the food content for THE CAMPER VAN COOKBOOK. Having recently learned to sail, she has had plenty of practice cooking in a small space on two rings.

This is the real deal for those who like to cook in the great outdoors.

The author has a real enthusiasm for his subject which comes across throughout the book. If you're not a surfer, or a camper van owner, don't be put off. As long as you like cooking outdoors and enjoying the great British countryside there will be plenty in this book for you.

I particularly like the sections on foraging around the coastline as it adds a new dimension to the outdoor cookbook.

It also has plenty of ideas for things to do and ways of keeping the kids entertained too. Finally it also has a great section on the 10 best excuses to use when you don't make it to work on Monday, ideal.

This is a lovely, well presented book which is an inspiration for anyone wanting to eat al fresco. I can recommend the recipe for bloody marys and the quesadillas - good for a BBQ. The other hints and tips for outdoor living have also been useful - I can vouch that excuse number 3 for why you cannot make it back to work really worked - I will give number 5 a go next week!

I bought this book as a boat owner, looking for one-pot recipes to cook on board. The recipes and ideas which were there are excellent... I loved the lists given; the kitchen basics was genius. I had expected more about the food and less about the lifestyle so for me the balance was wrong. However, the sub-title of the book does suggest it's more of both, so perhaps it was my haste in buying it.
I loved Michael Dorey's writing style so it was a joy to read. Almost worth considering buying a camper van to emulate those heady British summer days! The photos and layout I also really enjoyed - just would have like more recipes. I supplemented with an online search to complete my recipe library. The book has remained on the boat, which is testimony in itself.
