I was given a copy of the 2004 Cambridge Diet book for Christmas. It was only after reading the book that I realised that this was an updated copy of a book that came out in the 1980s. I found it very interesting and as someone who is constantly battling to lose weight, quite inspirational. Dr Howard was certainly way ahead of his time and I was amazed at the amount of research that went into creating his so called 'Perfect Diet'.
As I haven't seen one of the original versions of the book it is difficult to know what the differences are. Certainly the stories about real people who have lost the weight using the diet was interesting and I image not in the original?
But be warned this isn't an Atkins style book. You can't 'do the diet' by following the advice on the pages. To go on the Cambridge Diet you have to contact a local counsellor who supplies you with the diet and apparently helps you along the way.
The book is really a history of why and how the diet was created with some interesting nutritional information and an extensive Q&A section. I would certainly say it is worth a read for anybody who is interested in losing weight.
