Really liked it... 29 Jan 2012

Best 'Butterfly Effect' since the original 'Butterfly Effect'. Wonderful idea, this one keeps you guessing a long time before taking a detour and heading towards a rewarding collision in the last few minutes. A joyride of a mystery thriller. Enjoy.

Now my good film friend was telling me about The Caller for a long time. Saying it was great film and with original idea....so being a fan of supernatural or Sc-fi like stories. I decided to check out and see for myself and man! Is this great little film :) I think Rachelle Lefevre was surprisely good and a pretty good actress to be honest, forgive her Twilight she's this much better in this film. Stephen Moyer is also a great actor playing the very nice guy John Guidi, it's really good to see him outside "True Blood" with playing a different character. The storyline starts off very slow for the first 50mins, I guess it's to show more of characters and get to know them with their problems in day to day life, Rachelle's character as just got divorce and shows her moving on with getting the new apartment. Things get much weirder as a mystery woman is called her house phone, as the story goes on this mystery person keeps calling.....we find out she's calling from 1977 in the past and that's all I'm going to say lol if you have watched "Frequency" then your love this film, it following the same lines. The last 40 mins of the film is truly brilliant and original!! The ending is really shocking and I would personal buy this film, for £5 budget!!

I felt compelled to write this review to warn others of the perils of this title! On the strength of other reviews here I was expecting an exciting and absorbing film. Sadly the end product is something quite different. This, in my opinion, is due to the weak plot that is laden with pot holes throughout and also the character development, that is threadbare, and left me with with far more questions than answers.

Another reviewer compares this to the Butterfly Effect. Don't be fooled! The Butterfly Effect was well thought out whereas this is just plain confusing and rather daft at times. A good idea perhaps but poorly executed. I'd actually give this 2 1/2 stars if I could as I have seen far worse recently, but giving this title 4 or 5 stars is just plain misleading and thoroughly underserved! Again, this is just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to theirs, just be aware that this is prone to disappoint.
