Product Description

Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin star in this thriller in which a woman races against time to prevent a serial killer from taking another victim. Emergency services telephone operator Jordan Turner (Berry) answers a call from teenager Leah Templeton (Evie Thompson), who is trying to evade the clutches of a murdererous man (Michael Eklund). When their conversation is disconnected, Jordan calls Leah back but the ring of the phone alerts the killer to the girl's whereabouts and he subsequently takes her life. Six months later, Jordan is still struggling to come to terms with what happened but soon finds herself facing a similar situation, with the killer this time after another teenage girl, Casey Welson (Breslin). Can Jordan save Casey from meeting the same fate as the previous caller?

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping - From start to finish! 10 May 2014
By ReviewBlog51 TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
'The Call' is almost generated to keep you on the edge of your seat, it is by far the most genuinely intense movie that I've seen in recent times. You never know what is going to happen next, and I confess my heart was almost racing trying to predict how it was all going to pan out. I found it overpowering for the most part, and was so caught up in the dramatic events taking place that I almost forgot at times that I was watching a fictional drama. If a movie can make you feel such feelings, you know you have a stumbled across a winner.

The drama begins almost immediately, when a distressed young girl calls 911 in a Los Angeles Police Department. The operator Jordon Turner (Halle Berry) takes her call, and when the girl screams that a man is breaking into her home and fears he is going to kill her, the veteran operator makes a fatal mistake, and the next day a television news reel reports that the child has been murdered.

Still haunted by the case some six months later, Jordon is now working as a 911 trainer. As she is talking to the new recruits and showing them the ropes, a young girl, Casey (Abigail Breslin), is leaving a local mall on her own, after spending the day with a friend. Suddenly, she is kidnapped by a man (Michael Eklund) in the car park and thrown into the back of his vehicle. Luckily, she has kept her friend's mobile phone in her pocket, and is able to call 911. It suddenly becomes a frantic case of life and death, Jordon takes over the call, and is determined not to let another girl slip into this mad man's hands. She offers Casey plenty of sound advice whilst on the freeway, and Casey herself later has an idea, but both ultimately leads to more deaths.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great until the closing scene 27 May 2014
By R. C. Harris TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
This movie certainly lived up to it's description as gripping. The typical US casting of the beautiful heroine and nice good looking good guy is still there, and the director could have given the characters a little more depth. The screenplay is full of the usual clichés. However, the action and pace is fast, edge of seat material and keeps you glued to the set.

In the final scene the movie drops a gear. The heroine comes to the forefront in a scene more reminiscent of a poor B movie! It is unbelievable and simply doesn't do justice to the quality of the rest of the film. Such a pity!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Thriller 2 May 2014
Format:DVD
Really enjoyed this film. Good suspense at times and had me shouting at people trying to help who unknowingly were making things worse for the victim and helping the kidnapper. Halle Berry was convincing in her attempts to help the victim (I think given the circumstances she was in we could easily panic). This film had everything for me, good edge of the seat stuff. Will definitely watch again some day.

Great story line just a shame about the ending. Very intense at points but enjoyable to watch. Makes you really think about the job off 911 operators.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was on the edge of my seat! 25 Jun 2013
By Miss AL Holloway TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Blu-ray
I've just finished watching this film and I really enjoyed it. The premise is Halle Berry is Jordan, a 911 call operator, who is good at her job but loses faith after a girl she tries to help ends up becoming the victim of a killer. She then gives up answering calls herself and instead trains new recruits.

This all changes one day when she is showing some new staff around the call centre, and happens to listen in on a call from a young girl, Casey, who has been abducted and is in the trunk of her abductor's car. From here on, the film is full on suspense, and is brilliantly done. The interaction between the two leads, despite being over the phone, is excellent, the story is fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the ending is both unexpected and satisfying. I highly recommend this film to anyone who likes horror, thrillers, crime and suspense.

For those interested in the film's content, there is some violence but not graphic or gory, some swearing, creepy and disturbing in places, no nudity.
