4.0 out of 5 stars I Wasn't Disappointed 16 Oct 2006
By RozziD VINE VOICE
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is another three in one books starting with Courting Cathering - CC Calhoun is a hardworking down to earth car mechanic, not at all the type of woman who appeals to Trenton St James III. But as with all of Nora Roberts books, that's not going to stop anything! Trent is a hotellier who has his sights on The Towers, the family home of CC, her three sisters and Aunt. And the Calhouns are financially in trouble and may be forced to sell. But when Trent and CC get together - the plans may just have to be changed.

A Man for Amanda is the second in the series and although fairly predictable in the romance stakes, still an enjoyable read. The Calhoun Emeralds become the second main storyline, having started in the first story, and the hunt for them is on. Sloan is the man in this book - a rugged Southern Architect - again, not Amanda's picture of the ideal man - but all that could change!

For the Love of Lilah is the third in this set. Lilah is CC and Amanda'a sister who is an easy going wannabe hippy who lets life wash over her without too many worries. That is until Max falls into her life in a very dramatic way. Again, no real surprises as to how the romance will work out but locating the Emeralds are still the main focus of the characters.

If you enjoy Nora Roberts romance stories then I don't think you'll be disappointed. After finishing this book, I went straight onto the next in the series - Suzanna's Surrender and Megan's Mate

2.0 out of 5 stars Not her best 12 Sep 2006
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Sorry to say, this is a case of "same old, same old". First time I have been disappointed by Nora Roberts. The best story is "Courting Catherine" and the worst is "For the Love of Lilah", which quite frankly is rubbish. Nora seems to have dashed these three books off to a set formula. I wasn't moved to care very much about any of the Calhouns and the characterisation was all pretty one dimensional. However, on the flip side, these three stories are all pretty undemanding reading, so if you are looking for a bit of romance and fluff for a quiet Sunday afternoon, you wouldn't be disappointed. She has just done so much better with other books than here. If you are new to Nora Roberts, try looking at the McKades or the Donovans first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Book 14 Mar 2009

Nora Roberts writes wonderfully, and this series of books is classic Nora. Well written, catchy and entertaining, she desribes her characters really well, and you can really get into them.

Basic Nora Roberts- an enjoyable read with captivating characters. Would have been better if each of the books hadn't included a creepy seance every 5 seconds!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very readable family saga (parts 1-3) 9 Sep 2010
By Nicola F (Nic) TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
As a big NR fan, I was more than happy to indulge in another one of her family sagas. This, the first part of the `Calhouns' saga features the stories of three of the Calhoun sisters- Catherine (CC), Amanda and Lilah. The stories were initially published as individual novels, but an ongoing story arc runs consistently through all three, hence combining them in this one book. I was pleased to find out that not only were the stories themselves readable and not too old-fashioned, but that the characters had decidedly LESS stupid names than usual--(in my opinion of course!)

Story one is CC's. Headstrong mechanic CC is the baby of the family and feels a deep attachment to the family ancestral home so is less than pleased when hotel magnate Trent tries to buy it for re-modelling as Bay Harbour's premier new hotel. If only she hadn't gone and fallen in love with him, then things would be a lot easier...

Story two is Amanda's. Assistant hotel manager Amanda never expected to fall for an easy-going architect like Sloan, but the cowboy has a certain way of winding up the prim and proper Mandy that really gets to her. Then of course he only goes and saves her life...

The third story focuses on dreamy Lilah who becomes attracted to a mysterious stranger who just happens to have a shadowy connection to the Calhoun family...

Throw in the loveable but slightly eccentric Aunt Coco, séances, a family legacy, hidden jewels and the very likeable other family members and this was a really enjoyable read. Of the three stories, I think Amanda's was possibly my favourite- it was a bit more suspenseful and I'm a bit of a sucker for a slow-drawling, Harvard-educated cowboy!
