More About the Author

I like to believe I am the person my dogs think I am.

I phone my parents every day, as they are elderly and adorable, and they read me stories every day of my freakishly normal childhood. I was a writer before I learned to read, by creating scribbles on paper and dictating the stories to my saintly mother. You can see examples here:

Untold eons later, I still read and write everyday and I've gotten very good at it. I live in a ridiculously gorgeous place in the world--an island in Puget Sound, Washington where we have a lot of the same flowers you grow in the UK. But bigger slugs. Much bigger slugs.

I have lots more to tell you, so please join me on Facebook and check out pictures of my dogs and tell me what's on your mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful Series 3 Dec. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found these books by happy chance after reading a list of favourite book boyfriends on Eloisa James Facebook page. Someone recommended Ryan Calhoun in the charm school which I decided to try and loved. All three stories in this collection are beautiful tales of non typical heroines, girls that don't quite meet the societal norms either because of the way they look or behave ,whose value eventually recognised by a Calhoun male. Lots of interesting background material about horses, antebellum life in America or astronomy. Just delightful !

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Solid Reads 4 Aug. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read two out of the three and have started the third.
They are good solid reads. At least two of the books have over 400 plus pages and for £4.80 that is a bargain.
Just think I was going to buy one of the books in this bundle for £4.80. A good thing I continued browsing.
I always look at the how many pages a book (author and story a given) before I think of buying it. Some books to my mind are not worth it if they have less than 350 pages. If you are looking for graphic love scenes then do not buy Ms Wiggs. If you want a nice good read with excellent writing and editing then Ms Wiggs is your author.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Calhoun chronicles 20 Sept. 2013

Jolly good read I liked the way each book related to each other. So that there were glimpses of the people you met in the previous novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUNDLE LOVE! 14 Feb. 2011
By Chrissy - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Love, love LOOOOOVE this series. Did I mention love?

What sucked me in here was the completely unique tone of each novel. In spite of the fact that all three were Calhoun heroes, the individual titles were really unique.

A southern ship's captain and proper-Bostonian miss.
A wounded plantation owner and the isolated daughter of a horse-master.
A congressman-rake and a senator's daughter.

I lost myself in each one of these-- though the family unites them, each had a different setting, tone, and feel. And getting all three for this price? JACKPOT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Calhouns for a steal 1 Jun. 2011
By RTS - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
I was excited to see 3 books for less than $10 and by Susan Wiggs. I read a re-issue of "Firebrand" and fell in love with Ms. Wiggs. The Calhoun series highlights what an amazing writer Ms. Wiggs really is. This is the first 3 of 5 books in the series and spans a far number of years, bookending the Civil War. Ms. Wiggs provides enough historical reference for the reader to understand the era, but gives you 3 very different settings: Boston/Ship/Rio, desolate island/Virgina horse farm, Georgetown. The first starts out with the theme of the "Ugly Duckling" that is very pervasive through the 3 books. But it is more about the heroines growing into their own, not of them being ugly, just under appreciated. The heroes are strong and swoon worthy. It is refreshing to read historical romances that aren't just set in one time and space.
