to be honest I was more or less forced into watching this film otherwise wouldnt of given it a second glance after reading the blurb on the back of the DVD. how wrong I was, there are loads of funny scenes and cheesy lines but it works and is funny pritty much throughout. the story as it isn't exaclty challenging but thats not to much to the point, the comedy value and entertainment make it a must see in my opinion. The guy out of tv shows green wing and big train is hilarious as the voice over for the documentary aswell. Orlando Bloom plays his character pritty well and in general the performances are very good.

Orlando's fame is on the wane in post LOTR days, so it's forrtunate he lent his still-famous name to this no-budget independant little gem.
It starts off being presented by the narrator of the film, played in usual form by Mark Heap ('Brian' from Spaced - also stars in The Green Wing). His connection to the brilliant Spaced seems to have influenced the direting, with shots/cuts and other directorial tricks remeniscent of the series, and ergo Shaun Of The Dead.
Just like 'Shaun', this is a truly original, undeniably British comedy, and refreshingly different to the run-of-the-mill Working Title stuff (Four Weddings and a Wimbeldon on Notting Hill), so (un?)fortunately, we're spared Hugh Grant, and although there are Americans in this, all the lead parts are played by true Limey's (shock, horror!)
That's not to say that this film is anything other than a silly bit of pratting around for very little reason, but it is genuinely funny, in a very British way. Ultimately, its about a milkman, who accidentally knocks out a championship contender, who's mickey mouse manager talks the poor milkman into taking on 'the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world', when he's never even had a fight.
From the press conference in the local pub, to the chav-motivation specialist, to the drunk old trainer, this movie is full of the ironic charm that permeates every british great from the Italian Job to Withnail.
If you want something entertaining, but not challenging to your intellect or concentration, you can't go far wrong with this.

Yes.Truly this film made dreadful kindling and the heat refused to catch the plastic of tr dvd box.
Watching the flame roar as the DVD ignited brought a single tear of joy to my eye. What a terrible gift for my 27th birthday.

I watched this movie whilst I was on a road trip in Spain. It sure made the time pass quickly. We laughed all the way through. It had been almost a year since i had seen it but i still remembered lines such as: "my mum is massage therpist"... " if you feel that people are trying to pull down your trousers, wear a belt!" hahahha. and orlando bloom is so cute :d

i was so fond of the movie that i went through pains to get a region 1 dvd ( because i'm an american ) which i actually ordered from mexico. for all you brits, you should grab it.

This is a very poor attempt at a spoof comedy. The master of this would be the great Woody Allen who has made several genuinely funny spoof documentaries in his career. The Calcium Kid doesn't work. We know the story before the film even gets going. A sensitive kid gets the oportunity, via a series of accidental events, to enter a world he is not suited for. Dull, dull, dull. The acting reminds me of local theatre method acting.
All in all, this film looks and feels cheap.

I saw this one on sale in my local tesco store, looking at the cover i thought this was going to be another rubbish movie. How wrong i was. This is the funniest movie that i have seen all year.
Right from the start to the end, this is a laugh. The jokes are well written and excecuted by the actors perfectly. The movie tells the story of jimmy the local milkman, who accidently lands himself into a world title boxing match. He has only 7 days to prepare for the fight.

We saw this on holiday- well, part of it and wanted to know the story. Had heard of it as it was before Orlando became uber famous thanks to LOTR. Not one of the greatest films, but not one of the worst I have seen made on mucg bigger budgets. If you are in the mood for a laugh and can tolerate lots of potty mouthed men then watch this.
