More About the Author

I'm a New York Times-bestselling horror, thriller and fantasy writer from a little village in South Wales. I've written over 30 novels, including several in collaboration with Christopher Golden, as well as dozens of novellas and hundreds of short stories.

My latest novel, THE HUNT, is my first thriller. Lee Child calls it 'A great thriller ... breathless all the way.'

I've won four British Fantasy Awards, a Bram Stoker Award and a Scribe, as well as being shortlisted for the prestigious World Fantasy and Shirley Jackson Awards. A movie of my short story Pay The Ghost, starring Nicolas Cage, is due for release in 2015, and I have several other movie projects in development. I love running, biking and swimming, and often try to put them all together in long-distance triathlons. I raced my first Ironman in 2013.

I've also written a handful of tie-in projects connected to the Alien, Predator, Star Wars and Hellboy universes.

George Lucas could learn a thing or two from Whedon --Newsday

"I thoroughly enjoyed the ride and burned through the book in one sitting." --Cool and Collected

"An entertaining read just as vibrant and funny as the film." --Film School Rejects

Watch the film then read the books. Everyone got that? OK then... --Geeklore

"Having been a fan of novelizations most of my life I can remember reading the Alan Dean Foster ones of films like Alien and The Thing back when I wasn t even old enough to get into the movies I ve been collecting them for quite some time. This also means I ve read the good, the bad and the ugly in my time. Lebbon s book, based on the screenplay by Goddard and Whedon, is one of the best I ve ever come across." --Sci-Fi Bulletin

"If you like horror, but want something a bit different I'd encourage you to check out The Cabin in the Woods the movie or the novelization." --Blog Critics

a well-written novelisation by an author in control of characterisation, pace and plotting. --SF Crowsnest

OK, I haven't seen the film but I know Tim's name so I thought that his adaptation was going to be a decent offering. What unfurls is a fairly visual depiction and one that suits the authors writing style down to the ground. The prose is sharp, the description solid and when added to the authors ability to adapt and create a feeling of horror, it's a title that really did hit the spot for me as a reader.

All in a solid release and one that will do the format justice, especially if you like something to scare that you can put down, just remember to leave a gap before turning off that light.

After watching The Cabin in the Woods, I decided to buy the novel. I was not disappointed, and for once the book/film comparison is the same, although there are several scenes in the book that were not in the film. Basically, I couldn't put the book down, and had I not had to sleep, I would've read it in one sitting. I will definitely be keeping it on my Kindle, and reading it again. Absolutely fantastic.

This is a very good adaption of the movie, even down to the "tone" that Goddard and Whedon set in the movie. CitW's is not a simple movie to have to deal with and yet the novelisation does this admirably. I would advise anyone who can't watch "horror" movies but can read them to buy this book.

By Roxy on 13 Dec. 2014

I watched the film quite a while ago and must say that I don't remember a great deal about it, just that it was weird, wacky, out there and pretty difficult to follow. I had no idea there was a book, so when I found it at the library I followed my faith that the book is always better than the film and decided to borrow it. Now, I really enjoyed this! Straight after I finished the book the film was on TV (weird...I had no idea) so I compared. Others may find it weird as the film and book are pretty much the same but I enjoyed the book so much more, I connected to the characters more and I found it easier to follow. At first glance this may seem like your average 'been done before' horror novel but that's far from the truth....this is original. Although a little slow to start it soon picked up to a nice fast pace with twists and turns and plenty of gore! It's not the best horror I've read but I still enjoyed it very much. There's just one thing I do have to mention and it's totally my own personal feelings but I have minor OCD and so the constant ending of sentences in the middle made me have twitchy face. I know the incomplete sentences were used for effect but it just didn't work for me, I like my sentences completed more often than not and it just happened too many times that it started to affect my enjoyment. Apart from that this is a really good horror novel and I would recommend it to all horror fans.
