The butcher is an average slasher film, with an average cast who deliver average performances yet is strangely enjoyable.
The story is the standard slasher set up of: teenagers have a car crash, car won't start, teenagers go to "get help", teenagers find a "spooky" house, and teenagers get killed. There is nothing remotely original but it is all done with a knowing wink to camera and none of it is taken too seriously. Even the "twist" at the end has been numerous times before.
While far from the best horror of recent times it is much better than some of the appalling "horrors" I have seen recently such as Heartstopper or The Hamilton's. It is also mercifully short at approx 80 mins so it is over before boredom really has a chance to set in. Don't expect to be blown away and you will probably enjoy this for what it is, a standard slasher with a standard set up and a "twist" ending that is far from original.
