Product Description

CD Description

* NEW REMASTERED EDITION OF THE 1994 CLASSIC LIVE ALBUM BY HAWKWIND
* WITH THE RARE BONUS TRACK "TERRA MYSTICA"
* BOOKLET WITH FULLY RESTORED ARTWORK

ATOMHENGE, the home of HAWKWIND's catalogue, is pleased to announce the release of the excellent 1994 live album "THE BUSINESS TRIP". Recorded on the band's 1992 tour to promote the album "IT IS THE BUSINESS OF THE FUTURE TO BE DANGEROUS", the album captured DAVE BROCK, ALAN DAVEY and RICHARD CHADWICK in fine form, performing established classics such as `QUARK, STRANGENESS & CHARM', `DO THAT' (a reworking of `YOU SHOULDN'T DO THAT') and `VOID OF GOLDEN LIGHT' (a reworking of `THE GOLDEN VOID'), along with a host of new material such as `THE RIGHT TO DECIDE', and `L.S.D.'

Originally issued on the Emergency Broadcast label in September 1994 to acclaim by fans, "THE BUSINESS TRIP" has been unavailable on CD for some years.

This Atomhenge reissue has been newly re-mastered and features the rare bonus track, `TERRA MYSTICA', previously issued on the rare limited edition vinyl release of the album in 1994. This new release restores the original CD artwork and includes an illustrated booklet with new essay.

The Business Trip is undoubtably the best live album from hawkwind to date. Stripped down to a three peice band Dave Brock , Alan Davey and Richard Chadwick show the world how it should be done! This album takes you on a musical journey , with driving rhythms and whirling, gyrating trance like music , do not under estimate the power of this album , a must for every fan!

Live from UK November 1993 tour. High quality recording: tracks Altair, Quark, LSD, The camera that could lie, Green finned demon, Do that, The day a wall came down, Berlin axis, Void of golden light, RIght stuff, Wastelands, The dream goes on, Right to decide, The dream has ended, This future, Terra mystica. Whilst no early tracks except Captain Lockhead's fantastic Right Stuff and a frantic (shouldn't) Do that, this captures the slimmed down line up of 3 in it's early days producing a powerful and contemporary sound. This has a a fold out cover from the Warroir / ISOS style. It was a limited edition in vinyl and should have been a hit in all formats. In this format it feels like the early seventies again, a beautiful article and fresh sounding music.

Hawkwind - 'The Business Trip' (Griffin) 6 Oct 2004
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
When I was first informed about this fifteen track CD release,I was wrongfully told that it would be a disc full of remixed tracks by the band's later '70's-early '80's repertoire. That was,of course WAY off.Turns out to be another live effort that's got at least three new/unreleased tunes. My favorites are the two Bob Clavert gems "Quark,Strangeness And Charm" and "Right Stuff" as well as "LSD" and "Green Finned Demon".From l992's 'Electric Teepee' CD,there's the previously mentioned "LSD" and the '90's Hawk classic "Right To Decide".The new(er) tunes include "The Day A Wall Came Down","Berlin Axis" and the jamming "The Dream Has Ended".If you listen REAL good, you just may notice some tidbits of vintage Hawkwind claasics like "You Shouldn't Do That" and "You Know You're Only Dreaming".As for a live album goes,'The Business Trip' is pretty decent.it falls SOMEWHERE between 1973's unbeatable 'Space Ritual' and 'Palace Springs'.Not a bad find.

Another Live Album 25 Dec 2009
By jomojomo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
************************Personnel
* Dave Brock - guitar, keyboards, vocals
* Alan Davey - bass guitar, vocals
* Richard Chadwick - drums

************************Technical Stuff
I have the 1994 Griffin release. The sound and mastering are good. I know some live Hawk albums and dvds are abysmal, but this isn't one of those.

************************The Music
It should be noted that although it is supposedly a live album, and was marketed as such by the band it actually consists of studio tracks and live material. The studio work has had audience noise added to it so that listeners will think its live. That chaffs me a little, I really don't like being deceived. I don't even like when studio overdubs and editing are applied to a live album. A live album should include the music played at the gig and nothing else, imo. But the Hawks have never given fans a strait live disc, they always work on them in the studio, it's just that this one has songs not actually performed on stage.

This album was recorded on the tour to support "It is the Business of the Future to Be Dangerous". It only contains one song from that album though. I imagine if Brock had tried to give a room full of Hawkwind fans 90 minutes of electronic ambient there would have been riots; hence the lack of material from the album the tour was promoting. The set list is fairly straightforward, and the playing pedestrian. Let's face it, Brock/Davey/Chadwick are not the most gifted musicians in the world. Yes, Brock is a very good composer, and a decent guitarist, he is not mesmerizing on stage. The other two are pretty much average professional musicians. And despite all of the music that was recorded in studio and added to the album either as complete songs, or overdubs, the sound is threadbare and very strait forward. Hawk as a trio playing live just doesn't cut it.

Two songs show just how much Robert Calvert is missed. "Quark Strangeness and Charm" is terrible. It has absolutely none of the energy and life of the Calvert version and then there is Brock's abysmal monotone vocals that are not aging well. It ranks up there with the Hawk's "Gimmie Shelter" as one of the worst covers I've ever heard. There is another Calvert tune which though marginally better, should not have been on this record.

************************Summary
Uninspired live album by an anorexic line up: pass.
