Product Description

CD Description

The unprecedented success of The Buddy Holly Story, released in the immediate aftermath of the singer's death in a plane crash in 1959 soon had executives at Coral scouring for other material they could put out for the public. A total of twelve tracks were unearthed, including several that had not been completed, to which studio overdubs were added to make them accessible. The album, whilst not hitting the heights of its predecessor, still made the Top Ten during its chart run and further enhanced Holly's reputation.

So after 50 years we finally have The Buddy Holly Story Vol II on CD. And high time too, the only original LP album now still not on CD on its own is Holly In The Hills. Perhaps someone will take the hint and get on with it.

The Buddy Holly Story Vol II actually sounds just like my old LP but without the scratches. I am unable to state with any degree of expertise if the tracks were taken from and old LP but based on the crackles and pops on Learning The Game and Moondreams I would suspect it has been. In any case it is nice to finally have and is a welcome addition to my collection.

Buy it and support the possible release of Holly In The Hills on CD to complete the collection plus any other bits and pieces STILL NOT released.

AT LAST 13 Jun 2011

Got this on vinyl for my 17th. birthday 50 years ago and have played the old LP regularly throughout the years until the grooves are well worn and there's more hiss than music . So I was delighted to get my hands on the CD. Yes the sound quality is not as good as modern productions , but it is a heck of a lot better than my old LP. And remember some of the original recordings {the apartment tapes: Learning The Game , Crying Waiting Hoping , That Makes It Tough And of course Peggy Sue Got Married } were pretty rough to start with , but with these numbers there is , at least for me , a real feeling of intimacy with the genius that was Buddy Holly .
His last studio session with Dick Jacobs { the string session } produced four inspirational
recordings with the beautiful True Love Ways and the haunting Moondreams included here and was surely an indication of what was to come had he been spared .
This album evidences some of the most innovative , ground breaking , influential recordings of the Rock 'n Roll age .
The original album was a huge top 10 hit in the UK , back in 1960 . Buy this bargain priced CD and you will quickly know why .

Well....All Right 17 Feb 2011
By Paul R
Format:Audio CD
Containing gems like Peggy Sue Got Married and Take Your Time this has been a favourite album of mine ever since being one of the first LPs I bought some 50 years ago(can it really be that long?)and I've been waiting for it on CD ever since I obtained my first CD player around 20 years ago. I have never associated Hallmark with quality and sadly this release does nothing to change my opinion-the sound is poor throughout; Crying,Waiting,Hoping and True Love Ways are particularly bad and for reproduction the album deserves about 2 stars but I've given it 4 for content. I guess for the []purchase price it was an OK buy but I would happily have paid 3 times that for a decent copy. The original LP was a must-have for any Holly fan,its a shame that more care wasn't taken with this CD offering. All I can say is that it's; Well.....All Right.
