Format: Paperback
I have read a few 'introduction to buddhism' books recently, but none of them come across as well as John Snellings' handbook.
The writing style is very informal and the text does not get dragged down into excessive academic style script. The book puts across information in a manner that is very easy to absorb.
If you an interest in what buddhism is all about then i could not recommend this book highly enough.

Format: Paperback
This book is a good starting place for someone who has little or no knowledge of Buddhism. It gives a quick summary of the major concepts and then launches into the history of Buddhism right up to the modern day. It is written in a chatty style but does reach high levels of subtle insight in some places. I would recommend it for students who need some grounding in what Buddhism is.

Used this for checking on the basic tenets of Buddhism and it puts them across very well, succinctly and easy to understand.
