When the Guadeloupe born businessman and executive producer Jacques Fred Petrus and his main musical producer and co-worker Italian Mauro Malavasi (today a well-known producer of artist like Andrea Bocelli) in 1981 had a bunch of tracks ready for release they created a new band. They named it "The Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens band", or just B. B. & Q. band as they most often later on was called, after the three main areas in New York. The dynamic duo, that in 1975 had created the "Goody Music Production" company (later transformed to Little Macho Productions), had earlier during the late 70s created and produced bands like Macho, Revanche, Peter Jacques band and foremost Change.
In 1981 all of them, except Change were either gone or put aside at the expense of other and newer projects, and B. B. & Q. band were one of them. Via New York guitarist Doc Powell net of contacts Petrus hired Paris Ford (called Peewee Ford on the debut record) on bass guitar and his "cats" containing Abdul Wali Mohammed on guitar, Ike Floyd as lead singer, Dwayne Perdue on drums and Kevin Nance on keyboards to be the band.
Even though they released only four albums between 1981 and 1985 the band should have had much more attention than they actually received back then, and even today, they certainly earn it! On this brilliant 1981 self titled debut album of which the genius Malavasi wrote six of the eight tracks you'll get a smooth pop funk set of music with infectious melodies and punchy guitars. The album includes the excellent dance hit "On the beat" that reached the number 8 spot on Billboard's chart. But you'll also get the irresistible "Time for love" with a powerful and haunting song effort, joyous, "Starlette", with a dreamy break, and "Mistakes" with plenty of groovy guitars!
This rare album, previously never released on CD, is a must have in any dance music collection!

This is in my view, BB&Q's BEST album. Chic-ish, as so many groups of this period were, but with a rawness and heavyness which the wonderful & smooth CHIC mostly avoided. Somewhat similar in style to 'Change'and much underated as a group, STARLETTE was BB&Q's best single ever; hugely powerful, funky stomper of a record... one of my all time favourates. BB&Q managed to do what CHIC (my favourite group) failed to... their 31 year-old tune still gets this fat-old-disco 'no-dad' stomper, dancing furiously like a sword-wielding spinning dervish on speed! STARLETTE is so good that the album is worth buying just for that... I'm sure that i will die of a heart attack listening to that song!!! IT IS REALLY SOOOOOOO GOOD!!! Oh, the rest of the album is bloody cool too. Take it from me, its Gold.

BB and Q bands debut album was a very very mixed affair. Largely written and produced by Jaques petrus and mauro malvais the duo responsible for change..bbq were a side project for the hit duo. The album has all the sounds and hallmarks of change but little of the quality which made their albums so good. Theres no denying that "On the beat" is a stone cold classic and easily the best track on the album and has all the hallmarks of a classic track. The rest of the album fails to pack a punch and theres even an attempt at some cod reggae near the end which is hideous!!

The band were to go on to better albums, especially their seminal "Genie" album from 1986. Get that but give this a miss.

Three great songs within an uneven album. 5 Oct 2006
By Zachary Guzman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This album (which was originally released in 1981, not 1983 as it incorrectly states in Product Information) is a mixed bag of sleek R&B/Dance music from the talented musicians mostly responsible for albums from Change ("A Lover's Holiday"), High Fashion ("Feeling Lucky Lately"), Revanche ("1979, It's Dancing Time"), Macho ("I'm A Man") and others.

A good percentage of their music mixed Italian musicians with American ones and this album is one of the many examples. Three of the songs on this album deserve mention: The top ten R&b hit "On The Beat" opens up this cd and it's quite the shaker. It's perfect for that old school house party. "Time For Love", though slower, is more sophisticated and dreamy, with a great instrumental break.

Then there's my favourite song on this album, the beautifully played "Starlette." With it's speedy staccato vocals and latin-tinged percussion section, you get to find out just how amazingly talented these musicians truly are. It's a breathtaking track.

One very interesting fact I recently found out about "Starlette" is that the song was originally intended to be included on Change's debut album "The Glow Of Love" the previous year.

Brooklyn Bronx & Queens Band....a long time waiting! 4 Mar 2006

I F*_*king love this group! It took a long time to get this on CD. But Their best album was "GENIE" which is only on vinyl still...which has the titles "Dreamer" & "On the Shelf". If anyone has this on CD, I would pay top dollar for it.

BB&Q BAND 25 Aug 2006
By Navaar Onaje - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
One of the best albums to come out of the 1980's circa...BB&Q Band displayed a sound remeniscent of CHIC but on a somewhat differant level. I't's been said that the BB&Q Band actually replaced bands like Chic after Disco was given it's death sentence in the early to mid eighties. Musically and harmonically the band was at it's best and filled up the dance floors with their number one hit..."On The Beat". All the tracks are great, but I must admit my favorite track is "Time For Love". Something about the way the chorus complements the rhythm that puts everything in sink....great record. The slow jams are very good as well. Amust have for any collector....I highly recommend this purchase. Navaar Onaje

I have been waiting forever for this to come out in CD format. This Band was rockin in the clubs back in the day. My favourite was "Time for Love" even though the cut "On the Beat" was more popular. Buy this...its well worth the wait...believe that.
