I had previously only heard of Brookes Brothers through their collaboration with Danny Byrd on his Supersized EP
album. Despite not having heard any of their original material I purchased this album on a whim (well actually it came up as a recommendation through Rave Digger
here on Amazon). Fortunately I was not disappointed.
The album features some fantastic euphoric, electro-ish and at times atmospheric drum & bass. Tracks such as Tear You Down and the strangely titled Goodburger are probably some of the best drum & bass you are likely to hear for quite some time.
Drum & bass producers attempting other styles of music doesn't always work, however on this album it's mostly fine. The main exception is Warcry, which irritated me with its lack of melody and at times screeching vocals. Corpse Bride (another strange title) is a stomping broken beat electro track while In Your Eyes starts off sounding like a cheesy Reggae track until the beefed up beats and rasping bassline kick in.
Overall this is an album well worth checking out. If you like any of Danny Byrd's material then you'll definitely like Brookes Brothers. I would give the album two ratings: 5/5 for the drum & bass tracks, 3/5 for everything else.
