Product Description

Touching coming-of-age drama about the trials and tribulations of a group of young gay friends. Kevin (Andrew Keegan) is new to the group, who all meet to discuss their relationships in Jack's (John Mahoney) restaurant. Then there's Howie (Matt McGrath) whose tendency to overanalyse winds everyone up; whilst Cole is a young thespian whose good looks keep the guys queuing at his door, and Patrick (Ben Weber) feels out of the loop, becoming bitter in his exclusion.

From Amazon.co.uk

Chirpily likeable rather than profound, The Broken Hearts Club covers a few months in the lives of a group of young gay men on the West Hollywood scene and their pursuit of love and happiness. They admire the long-term domestic bliss of Jack (John Mahoney) in whose restaurant some of them work, but have no real sense of how to get there, of how to grow out of shallow dating relationships and the perpetual chase of the next cute body. Patrick Ben Weber is average-looking in a world of beautiful men like Cole (Dean Cain) and has developed a nasty tongue to go with the insecurity; Howie (Matt McGrath) over-intellectualises his relationships and their breakup; Dennis (Timothy Olyphant) is not even sure he should be hanging out with these people when he should be working on his photography. A little too much of this charming film is devoted to winding these characters up and letting them bitch at each other in a variety of locations and emotional messes, and yet there is real wit here and some moments of fine perceptiveness about being young and in a hurry to find what you need. --Roz Kaveney

This is an entertaining and moving romantic comedy. The cast are excellent, especially Timothy Olyphant, Dean Cain and John Mahoney (aka Frasier's Dad). Initially, my impression was that the film was going to be about a bunch of cliched, stereo-typical scene queens but as it progresses the central characters develop into complex and fully rounded human beings. The film contains some perceptive, intelligent dialogue and genuinely moving moments. The intelligence and emotional honesty of the screen-play save the film from mere romantic fluffiness into which it could easily have descended, especially in view of the eye-candy actors (the previous reviewers are entirely right in this regard). I don't think anyone would claim The Broken Hearts Club is great art - but it's certainly well worth watching.

The idea of a gay 'Steel Magnolias' like film was somewhat off putting, because like nearly every film covering the topic of sexuality, the characters are typically betrayed as vain, bed-hoping camp queens, but this film is not only an awakening for those people out there, but it sends out a message about love and true friendship. The characters in the film, who all create a very real chemistry, are those we in real life would cherish to have in our lives even for just one moment. I thought that not only was the acting flawless and the script witty and heartfelt, but the actual feel of the film was honest and had a genuine heart - be it straight or gay. If you're looking for a film that demeans homosexuality and makes hetrosexuals out to be the greater sexuality, then this film isn't for you. Go rent the American version of 'Queer as Folk', but if you're looking for a film, where without sexuality, remains a truely touching film, that'll make you cry, laugh and smile, then this is the film for you. I'd have to say that this is one of the best films I've ever seen.

A film about a group of gay guys and their 'gay' lives.
An insight into their friendships with each other, their love lives, with some stereotypical inclusion thrown in for familiarity. It has some funny moments, and some sad moments.
This is a good film that although its 'nothing special', I have found myself watching it a couple of times now, so it cant be that bad at all.
Friends have borrowed it and enjoyed it, so I would reccomend this film for anyone who can think a bit deeper than needing to see extreme violence or non-reality story lines to keep them interested and awake.

In brief;
"A group of young(ish) gay men in Hollywood struggling to come to terms with relationships. A chick flick without the chicks!"
One of the best and most understated Romantic comedies around (and coming from me thats something!).
Girls wanting something to make them laugh, cry, squeal and drool should really consider this one.
Can I just mention the cast;
Tim Olyphant - very good, sympathetic and original character.
Andrew Keegan - very fine, cries a couple of times,
Dean Cain - Superman - what more can I say?
With extra special appearances from the delectable
Kerr Smith and the ever delighful but sadly little known or seen
Christian Kane ( Lindsey MacDonald from Angel).
Anyone who loves Romantic Comedies, Romances or Comedies should definately watch this film - it'll keep you guessing who's coming next until the very end.
And for those who knew who Chris Kane was without the tag - see if you can spot Charlie Weber (Ben from Buffy season 5!)
All in all this film is real eye-candy for the girls. Probably not one for the more heterosexual male though!

This is a modern classic of the romance genre. Imagine your life on film and what it would be like, this is just that. It's not an issue based 'gay' flick but an honest attempt to portray what all gay men at some time experience -the trauma of relationships.
The acting is superb with a good mix of well known and new actors. Many will be overjoyed to see 'Superman' Dean Kane as the beautiful and pouting man chaser and John Mahoney (Martin Crane in Frasier) puts in a spectacular supporting performance which proves he is an actor of great talent.
Definately a must see for all!!

Another film that gets a thumbs up! and a five star rating!
To see Dean Cain in such a role, is pleasing, but never mind the eye candy. The film is well written and well acted. There's pleanty of comedy moments. With a coming of age story line running through it! There is also a very touching moment when one of the characters dies. All in all it is a very, very good movie, and something you could let your mother watch! If you wanted too!!!!! I would suggest that if your thinking of buying this film, GO FOR IT! You won't regret it! You will be pleased you did!

This is such an entertaining look at friendship, dating, settling down but with the difference that it's not a chick flick but from the gay guy angle. It is superbly acted with Timothy Oliphant and Dean Cain as the standouts but all the supporting cast are great too. A few over the top camp moments but on the whole, it's humorous and touching with a definite feel good factor which is often missing when movies attempt this subject. Well worth a watch
