I am suprised how many people think that chamber misic is dry and uninteresting.
Well if you are curious about chamber music or even wondering how Michael Nyman does it,this sublime disk is an excellent introduction on both counts.
In particular the Quartet No3 is oustanding. It is no wonder Christopher Hampton asked Nyman to use its main theme in the film "Carrington". I feel it works much better as a quartet work. The haunting and hypnotic main theme is in my mind on a par with the second movement of Borodin's 2nd quartet. The other two quartets are equally well thought out and entertaining. This disk is good value for money and the Balanescu Quartet play with great style.
My only resevation is that you may find chamber music addictive.
