Useful but dull 21 July 2009
Clearly outlines British Army structure and set up and provides vital facts and figures.

However is incredible boring to read but is good if you want to improve your armed forces knowledge if you applying to the Army.

Guide is out of date 12 Nov 2010
I was disappointed with this edition of the the pocket guide. For a guide that was titled "2008-2009" much of the information dated back to 2006 or even earlier. Inside the cover the publication date was actually 2007. One example is that of the FV102 Striker vehicle, equipped with Swingfire missiles. This vehicle and missile are listed as still in service when they were withdrawn from service by mid-2005 as the Swingfire missile was replaced by the Javelin.

I have been buying and reading Charles Heyman's pocket guides to the British Army since 1992 so when I saw this I knew what I would be getting: factual no-nonsense information about the equipment and troop state of the British Army based on authoritative unclassified sources rather than uninformed media speculation and guesswork. I was not disappointed. This book is excellent for clarity and broad-brush overview with occasional detail on specific equipment capability and unit strength where appropriate. It's an excellent quick reference text on where the British Army stands at present and where they are projected to be in the near future. If you're in the British Army or a civilian and would like to know what is going on around you in the Army, how it is structured and how much it all costs then this is a must have book. I highly recommend it.
