Biography

The Australian four-piece have spent 2011 honing their genre-defying craft. They have taken their very own brand of emotionally charged, adrenaline fuelled classic rock/pop out of their native land and cast it like some malevolent spell across the oceans, a territory at a time.

Singer Hayley Mary is nothing short of mesmerising, combining all the prowess of some of rock’s finest ... Read more in Amazon's The Jezabels Store

Product Description

Product Description

From album opener and title track 'The Brink' via first single 'The End' to the closing bars of the finale 'All You Need', The Jezabels' second album is a thrilling affirmation. It is a death defying balance of optimism and maturity; richness and simplicity. It is a the journey of a band dealing with loss of innocence, mortality, politics, isolation and unity all spun with silken 'pop' threads.

It's been a long wait for this...29 months since the brilliant 'Prisoner' without even any new tracks/singles in the meantime. Expectations are high but they probably will be dashed as so many other strong acts have since entered the fray like Daughter, Woman's Hour, London Grammar. So let's go! Opener 'The Brink' is a strong powerful start & meets expectations "I never found someone" "bring back my spirit & my soul" as Hayley is in emotional overload. 'Time To Dance' takes us down to seemingly less emotional waters, a great track with enough new ideas "and the glory days were no more" & then Hayley eventually lets rip with the emotion. 'Look Of Love' is absolutely beautiful as Hayley sings high "you get spinning again" "I could take you in a pick up truck" and is also a great dance number - excellent synth motif. 3 killer tracks so far. 'Beat To Beat' is a little nondescript & doesn't quite work out so well (actually after several more plays this grows & is a brilliant vocal performance :o). 'Angels Of Fire' with a gentle synth start, & vocal creates a nice change "I'm getting old & bitter". 'No Country' is remarkably beautiful "my daddy's in chains"...perhaps the most extraordinary here. Then we are hit by 'The End' which even if a little like the endless long summer highway is a catchy brilliant track "you gave me your hand; I gave you dirt". 'Got Velvet' doesn't grab initially but lyrically it's interesting & there's some fine musical touches. 'Pyschotherapy' is different & a gentle piece with Hayley still singing in her plaintive manner "what's a young boy like yourself doing in a place like this" with some prominent synth sounds. 5.0 out of 5 stars Pure entertainment - (and great running music) 16 Mar 2014
Format:Audio CD
Where did this come from. I haven't heard an album that has created such an immediate impression since Hopes & Fears.
Excellent compelling songs and a really well-produced sound. Can't stop my foot tapping. Great for running.
I don't usually review music - but this is a really exceptional album.

If you liked the last Jezabels album you will like this one. Although the vocals are a lot softer on the album which I really enjoyed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just beautiful. 2 Mar 2014
Format:Audio CD
The follow up to 'Prisoner' and I think it's even better if possible. This is power pop of a sublime order with not a weak track on it. World domination is surely only a matter of time!

5.0 out of 5 stars An exceptional album 25 Feb 2014
By JL
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Their first album "Prisoner" was always going to be a near-impossible act to follow, but with their second studio album the Jezabels have picked up right where they left off, and the result is a truly accomplished album. The singer's voice is phenomenal, the keyboard-guitar combination creates a unique sound, and the drum rhythms combine with these elements to create a collection of songs that are thoughtful, passionate and addictive.

The album has no real weak points, but for me, 'Look of Love', 'No Country' and 'Time to Dance' are the stand-out songs on the album. Definitely a worthwhile purchase, and I hope this band soon start getting the recognition they deserve.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 19 Feb 2014

This thing hasn't been out of my CD player since it arrived on the morning of the release date! I read somewhere that the jezabels were dreading second album syndrome after how good 'prisoner' was... This is certainly not the case. It's a solid album, I love their sound, I like Hayley's singing even more on this album, the drumming is as always spectacular... Can't wait to see them at gorilla in Manchester next week!

I don't think The Jezabels can write a bad song. Get to the second track on this new album and I defy you not to be blown away by the awesome production, rhythm and drumming. Love you guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes..It's good but...
I'm not sure it's as good as the first album, it's smoother, more polished and I think a little overproduced, but it's still v. good. Read more
