Format: Hardcover
The Brilliant Book of Doctor Who 2012 had a lot to live up to. Its predecessor was an excellent annual, filled with exclusive interviews and content written by some of series 5's guest writers, and an episode guide, with two pages for each episode.

Good news: The Brilliant Book 2012's even better. There's content written by all but one (Toby Whitehouse, writer of The God Complex) of the the year's guest writers, FOUR pages per episode (although the page size is a little smaller this year, made up by a larger page count), interviews with the four stars of series six, plus Steven Moffat, and loads more. It's a brilliant book, so don't hesitate to buy it!

I got this book for Christmas and it has been a brilliant read. I can't fault it in any way. It showed me what it was like to work on the crew of Doctor Who and reminded me why I love Doctor Who. It was really interesting to read the deleted scenes and the facts about every episode. If you missed an episode of the latest series, this book will fill you in perfectly. Well done BBC!

Format: Hardcover
For anyone who enjoyed Doctor Who Series Six, this is absolutely essential reading. It's effectively the Annual for older fans, though on closer inspection it's even better than that. It's the ultimate companion to Series Six; all 13 episodes (plus A Christmas Carol) are covered in depth with facts, interviews with the writers, "Magic Moment" script extracts and even deleted scenes - in the case of The Doctor's Wife, the lost "Planet of the Rain Gods" scene has been adapted into a comic strip! And as you'd expect, there are exclusive interviews with all the main cast - Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and Alex Kingston.

There is also a wealth of fictional material - letters, newspaper clippings and other media from all corners of the universe - that enriches the backstory of each episode and makes the world of Doctor Who come alive more than ever before. Just some of the many highlights include the Adventures of Madame Vastra, Amy and Mels's school reports, the user guide for the Teselecta, Charles Dickens' Twitter feed, and many more surprises I don't want to spoil. There's even written accounts from the Doctor, Amy, Rory and River, filling in what happened in the three-month period between The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon. In-keeping with the spirit of the series, the book is also brimming with humour - some of which only die-hard fans will appreciate. The Doctor's job application in particular had me in stitches. The writers' love and geeky enthusiasm for the show is obvious; it shines on every page.

The style of The Brilliant Book is sort of like a deluxe hardback magazine, and some of the images are quite breathtaking, with the photoshopped illustrations for each episode reminiscent of the DVD covers of classic stories.

This book really is brilliant, and it's the ultimate guide to Series 6. It also has some peeks of Series 7, as well as covering the 2010 Christmas special.

Only problem is the website provided to download the audio book doesn't work...

Amongst the more discerning fans - those who have recognised the DOCTOR WHO ANNUAL publication is far beyond its usefulness and sell-by-date - the expectation of Clayton Hickman's creative `end of term report' is equal to that of the Christmas Day television episode itself.

How can that be, especially as this is only the second year of release?

What makes DOCTOR WHO (THE OFFICIAL GUIDE TO THE HIT TV SERIES) - THE BRILLIANT BOOK 2012 so special (and there's an even a `homage' website dedicated to re-imagineering its format for a CLASSIC SERIES fan-base) and widely recognised as being singularly definitive, astute, creatively visual and, above all, fun.

Firstly, at nearly 170 pages, this £12.99 (though the retailers such as AMAZON.CO.UK will heavily discount the publication) hardcover publication is as colourful and cheerful as an episode of STRICTLY COME DANCING (or DANCING WITH THE STARS, if you like) and, at times, inspiring and bedazzling within a blink of an eye (and, yes, even though the Weeping Angels are featured, you can blink without fear).

A winning formula of cast and crew interviews (including enigmatic glimpses into the future courtesy of both Matt Smith and Steven Moffat), exclusive tours of behind the scenes that demonstrate the professional creativity of production staff (in this edition director, Toby Haynes guides fans through the tortuous yet rewarding aspects of bring the printed script to life on the screen), analysis of each of the fourteen (including A CHRISTMAS CAROL special episode broadcast in 2011) episodes, and an array of photo-compositions that hark back to the early days TARGET novel cover illustrations from Chris Achilleos.

This is what the DOCTOR WHO ANNUAL 2012 should have been.

This book is brillaint for Real Doctor Who fans.Doctor Who: Official Annual 2012 (Annuals 2012) is essentially a children's activity book but this book is a proper fan book. Even for kids but more so for adult fans. There is just so much content on every episode with in depth articles on characters and monsters and even in-universe things like Amy and Rory's shopping list. There is also tons of beautifully coloured images especially the full page image they have for each episode guide. They look really nice. All this in hardback form for less than £7!! I purchased an SFX Collection - Doctor Who: The Fanzine Special (January 2012) for £11 and it is rubbish in comparison to this book. A great cheap present for any Doctor Who fans you have as even though the price is small the content and presentation is very nice and seems very premium.
