The biggest disappointment with this book is that its American (which I didn't realise when I bought it) and American weddings seem to have a very different culture to British ones...
I don't understand why you'd ever want to mess up your hair, make up and dress by throwing a very expensive wedding cake at each other (as they suggest in the book!) or what is wrong with asking your guests to pay for their own drinks during the reception; something they state is a complete no no.
The book is well written and very easy to read, but unless you want a very "American" wedding... this is not much help

I reviewed the Groom version of this book recently after my fiancé was gifted it for Christmas and decided to buy myself the Bride version.Groom's Instruction Manual: How to Survive and Maybe Even Enjoy the Most Bewildering Ceremony Known to Man
As mentioned in the Groom review, the books are American. I didn't find this too much of a problem, you just need to learn the lingo and convert the advice to the UK wedding world or ignore it all together - unless you're having a rehearsal dinner...
They're funny and light hearted yet packed with quite useful advice. The Bride book contains completely different sections to that of the Groom book (as you would expect, this covers the dress and accessories, but also flowers which I thought was a nice touch, Grooms seem to not be fussed about the flowers!)
Has really useful little worksheets that you could copy to help you draft your guest list and seating plan.
They're roughly A6 sized so great for keeping in your handbag.

I just recently got engaged and it seems as though everyone feels the need to give me all kinds of books to read, all of which are exactly the same! They skipped around so much! How is someone suppose to plan a wedding when the damn book skips around so much! Lol! Unlike all the others, I love this book because not only was it easy to read, it was very informative and it wasn't "heavy" like most wedding books! I found myself laughing out loud to some parts! I love all of the pictures! I def recommend this book to every bride!!

Awesome graphics, helpful advice

My fiance bought this book for me because we both loved the graphics, we liked that it was made by Philadelphians and he though it would make a cute gift. Well cute gift it was, and then I actually read it and have found it to be really helpful and have consulted it multiple times especially the sticky situations, bridesmaid sections, invitee selection and advice on dealing with family. Planning a wedding really does bring out all of these bizzaire sides of people you thought were normal. It is the only wedding book out of 3 that were given to me that I actually use (and kept) and I love it. I must have a very similar idea to what a wedding should be like as the author of this book. It has turned out to very practical in addition to pretty. I just ordered the Groom's Instruction Manual and I hope he enjoys his as much as I have mine.

Cute gift

I bought this book and the companion groom book for my fiancé. Most of the advice is pretty common sense, stuff that you can find from other sources. But the presentation is adorable and it made us laugh, I will definitely get this for friends that get engaged in the future. It is probably more practical for someone early on in the planning process, otherwise it is more of a gag than a useful gift.
