Book Description

1 Jan 1920
Emily Cannon is not the mail-order bride Luck Becker expected: plain and tall, Emily has taken someone else's place as Luke's bride. And she is far from the woman Luke thought he wanted. Arriving in Oregon with nothing but the gown and veil her sister had intended to wear, Emily had nowhere to go and is in more desperate straights than she can ever let on. But Luke needs a mother for his eleven-year-old daughter, and despite his anger at the deception, he can't turn this proud, yet vulnerable, woman away. He's determined to keep this a marriage in name only--unless Emily's quiet grace and tender understanding can tempt him to open his heart...

5.0 out of 5 stars A WONDERFULLY TENDER AND ROMANTIC STORY 16 Jan 2012
By L. Sims TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Emily Cannon has travelled from Chicago in her sisters place as a mail order bride. Her sister Alyssa had died and as Emily's last remaining relative there was nothing to hold her in Chicago. Her sister had been small with dark hair and very pretty, while she was tall blond and plain. Emily hoped that the farmer who had sent the ticket would accept her in her sisters place.
Luke Becker was a widower and had been for three years, his daughter Rose was the main reason he wanted a wife. Rose was becoming very unruly and his mother-in-law Cora was encouraging her bad behaviour, he needed a woman who could help him turn Rose's behaviour around. He was not looking for romance or love he had loved his dead wife Belinda, he was never going to love again.
This story about a mail order bride travelling out west to marry a farmer is so beautifully written I could not put it down. The two main characters of Emily and Luke are wonderfully drawn, and their relationship develops as the story unfolds, Luke's daughter Rose is a charming addition to the story, the author depicts so well how her behaviour is a cry for attention especially from her Father. Added to the mix is the mother of his dead wife, Cora who lives with them, she is a deliciously wicked a character you just love to hate. How they overcome all of the problems they are faced with made for an engrossing read. If you have never read a book about a mail order bride. I strongly suggest that you try this you will not be disapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bridal Veil 9 Jan 2013

Such a gentle love story almost like Cinderella set in the backwoods of Oregon. I liked the feisty but repressed Miss Em and could almost see her bloom on the pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! 25 Feb 2013

I could not put this book down from the first word! Emily Cannon is everything her sister Alyssa was not. Alyssa was petite and Emily is taller than most men. Alyssa had dark beautiful hair and Emily had too light hair. Alyssa was beautiful and adored by men, Emily was plain and always put aside. Luke was expecting Alyssa to appear on the dock before him, but it was Emily. Her sister had died in a terrible accident and with no family or nothing left Emily decided to come in her stead as Luke's Mail Order Bride.

Luke did not want to marry again as he was still carrying the love for his wife that had died. But his daughter Rose need a mother and guidance as her behaviour was growing more and more troubled with each passing day. Although everything tells him not to accept Emily in place of her sister, he is desperate and agrees to marry her. There is something though he did not share in his letter to Alyssa and that is his wife's mother Cora lives with him and Rose.

If the situation itself did not prove troublesome enough, Cora being bent on running Emily off should.

This is a great romance novel, smart, sexy, tender, and wonderful. More than worthy of a read and will be read again many times over.
