This 1963 crime movie stars William Lucas, who would later play Dr Gordon in the early 70's TV series "Black Beauty", here he plays Jacko Thomas, a dangerous criminal who while on a train manages to escape his police guard.
His eventual destination is an isolated hotel in the Dartmoor countryside, having arranged a rendezvous with a man named Tredgar, (Eddie Byrne) who's arranged a safe passage for Jacko and his sister, Jean (played by Christina Gregg) who has no knowledge of her brother's murderous personality, also booking into the hotel are an ex-policeman and a novelist, (Robert Urquhart and Tony Britton).
The story provides a few twists and turns along the way, as the movie progresses to it's unpredictable climax. This British B-movie is an effective crime drama, helped by solid performances, and also by the fact that the movie was shot on location at a lonely rural farmhouse, which lends the movie extra atmosphere.
The movie was directed by Lance Comfort, who had a strong reputation for bringing out the best in the B-movies he made. The black and white picture and sound quality are good, no extras or subtitles. The included 2-page leaflet provides brief biographies of the director and the main cast.
For fans of vintage British B-movies, this is well worth a look.
