Quite fun, the detail somewhat lacking but books which will fill an idle hour adequately. Regency detail not always correct.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and well plotted 17 Jun. 2014
By Dr B
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Overall, I really enjoyed this collection which follows the exploits of a set of siblings whose lives were turned upside down by the French Revolution. I liked the characters, in particular the strong, daring heroine in the first book. The plots are complex and set around the French Revolution and then move on to the rebellious Americans. I felt that the second story was the weakest of the set because I had some difficulty in getting to grips with the heroine, who didn't entirely make sense to me.

I am rather concerned that another reviewer claims that this collection has "lots of short stories" and "A good assortment of authers". Neither statement is true. This collection contains 3 full length novels (each of around 5000 Kindle locations) and so is very good value for the price I paid (£1.99). Also all three stories are by Elizabeth Boyle, so there are no other authors. Thus, it is not obvious to me that the review actually refers to this collection at all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Formulaic and predictable 3 July 2013
By Theresa Brandt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Book 1: The Brazen Angel. The least believable of the trilogy because so much of it felt contrived. Many, many obstacles and problems faced by this protagonists worked out too conveniently to keep the tension high for very long. As far as the characters are concerned, I felt that Sophia was, at times, just a bit too adventuresome and brave while Giles, at times, bordered on cowardly.

Book 2: The Brazen Heiress. Lily, Sophia's younger sister and Webb, Giles' colleague in the British Foreign Service are the most believable characters in the series.

Book 4: Brazen Temptress. Julien and Maureen. This book, like the two before it follows the formula of strong female heroin meeting dashing male hero; both feel instant attraction marred by deep misunderstandings which drives them apart. Mix in some intrigue leading to mutual doubts about the misunderstanding; the misunderstanding and the central plot element of intrigue is resolved, love is renewed, danger thwarted, followed by passionate kisses/sex, end scene.

Bottom line: Ms. Boyle favors strong female characters who are unafraid to take risks which frequently border on excessive derring-do. The male protagonists trail along after them telling them to be careful, but in the end save the heroine and save the day. The writing, sprinkled with touches of wry humor, is above average if formulaic. The author seems to understand the historical era in which the books are set which enhances the story. The three novels earn a solid 3 stars but no more because all three stories were very predictable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Couldn't put it down! 23 July 2012

Loved this trilogy! The story lines were vivid and thought provoking so by the end you were invested into more than just the romance between the 2 main characters. Probably the best buy for my kindle library this summer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brazen Trilogy 12 Jun. 2014

I like a series as a set. I don't like to buy a book and get to the end and surprise realize there are more books to follow. I found the books to be interesting. I knew when I finished the one, I had two more to read.
