This book, the third in a series of four is so much better than the previous book. The characters are so much more rounded and interesting. Logan is such a yummy hero, not at all vulnerable, but faces up to his feelings for Linnette (sorry forgot the spelling) very early on. The herione is also very interesting, not looking for a husband because of her situation and responsibilities, but doesn't at any time feel sorry for herself. The book moves very swiftly and there is none of the repetitiveness that was in the last one. So far this is my favourite of the three.

After the utterly dire 'The Elusive Bride', I seriously doubted that I would finish the Black Cobra series. But I gave into impulse, and I'm glad I did. For the first section of the book, we are on Guerney, enjoying a lovely little sijourn away from the main storyline. Its a long time before we have to even encounter the word 'cultist'. Warning, the sex scenes in this section are very in depth, prolonged and extensive. I usually despair of all the useless voyarism, but in this book it seems more integral to the development of the relationship between Logan and Linnet. Once we leave Guernsey, the sex scenes are much reduced, and I found the bedroom scenes, minus sex, very touching and poignant.

Logan and Linnet are much more likeable characters than the previous Gareth and Emily. For your piece of mind, there are no ridiculous diary entries to despair of! They are very alike, and the power struggle between them evident. Linnet is a very strong woman, with her finger in many pies and lots of people relying on her. I liked the parallels between herself and Elizabeth I, although I thought I might scream if I heard her described as 'brazen' one more time. Alright, its the title of the book, WE GET IT! I felt quite sorry for Logan sometimes when I thought how impotent she must make him feel. But his ability to quash his male ego makes him all the more admirable and likeable.

The time on Guernsey allows us to get to know the characters much more than in the previous books, and by the time we leave, we are more than ready for a bit of action! The encounters with the Black Cobra and the cultists are much less repetitive, and we get no insight into the minds of the cultists at all, as with 'Uncle' in the previous book.

Oh, how absolutely well named, Linette Trevission definitely was brazen, wanton even! When fate smiled on her in a very strange way indeed, and dropped a dark haired fallen angel (Logan Monteith) badly injured and unconscious in a cove that she owned in Guernsey. She treated him, warmed him up, and when is memory returned, assisted him in taking his vital evidence onwards to England.

Book 3 in the Black Cobra Quartet, and some really unexpected turns and twists in this one too. Possibly the best of the Stephanie Laurens books read so far .... somebody please make them into films!

A big fat 5 Stars plus for this fabulous book .... a gripping and compelling read from the get go!
