Hello my name is Maria Saunderson and I am a freelance textile artist. I am mum to four beautiful grown up daughters, a proud nana of four handsome not as yet grown up grandsons and wife to a very loving and supportive husband. I have designed textile projects for many of the leading craft magazines, including Popular Patchwork, Cross Stitcher and Crafts Beautiful, my paintings on silk have been exhibited in local galleries. From a very young age I loved to sew, proof of which can be seen in my photo taken at Santa's grotto holding my first sewing set, I can still remember the excitement I felt when I first saw that needlecraft box on the shelf, it felt like forever standing in the queue waiting to hand in my ticket, hoping nobody else would choose it. I couldn't wait to reveal its magical contents, tiny reels of cotton, skeins of coloured embroidery thread, a fragile plastic hoop with a small piece of stamped fabric attached and a fold of paper containing the all important needle. My first book The Brave Little Ferryboats' tells the true story through hand stitched embroideries of how the Liverpool Ferryboats Daffodil and Iris were awarded the title Royal. It has been a true labour of love, taking four years from having the original idea to completion. It is suitable for all ages, babies and toddlers will love the bright colours and spotting the ferryboats little seagull companion. Older children and adults will be introduced to a fascinating piece of Liverpool history. I hope my book will both enchant you and touch your heart. 'Once Upon A Liverpool' is my second book, it tells the true story of 'The Beatles' simply, through hand stitched embroideries. It is suitable for all ages, babies and toddlers will love spotting Rigby the little submarine. Older children and adults will enjoy seeing iconic moments in the history of 'The Beatles' recreated using fabric and threads. There is a Fab Four Facts section and lots of little surprises hidden in each picture. The illustrations have been stitched and the text written with love and kindness which I hope comes through when you read the story of four young boys from Liverpool who had a dream and worked hard to make it come true. Thanks for looking Maria x
