Product Description

Recognised as the inspiration for Stanley Kubrick s Full Metal Jacket, Boys of Company C is a high-end member of the cannon of classic battle-field movies and a frighteningly realistic critique of the pointlessness and corruption universally associated with the US/Vietnam war.

Boys of Company C follows the lives of five naïve young Marine inductees from their training in boot camp through a tour in Vietnam that quickly devolves into a hellish nightmare. Disheartened by futile combat, appalled by the corruption of their South Vietnamese ally, and constantly endangered by the incompetence of their own company commander, the young men find a possible way out of the war. They are told that if they can defeat a rival soccer team, they can spend the rest of their tour playing exhibition games behind the lines. But as they might have predicted, nothing in Vietnam is as simple as it seems.

Special Features:

- Chapter Index
- Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track
- Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo audio track

PERSONAL REVIEW
I first heard about this film from my dad who had originally seen it in 1980/1 on betamax so it obviously a film that was up there and worth remembering as a good film and not a crappy one to warn others about not buying it or watching it. Having watched it I too would recommend this film and it is well worth the £8 Amazon are charging for it at the moment, the film was released in 1977 and the film is in colour and shot in a way that anyone who loves 80's films and likes the war genre would like.
It is very hard to watch this film and not compare it with full metal jacket especially as I have already seen full metal jacket numerous times. Both films start off with induction at a marines training facility including a few touches that were not in full metal jacket such as getting their hair shaved off with the abuse from the sgt who was also the drill sgt in full metal jacket but younger , the additional touch was them having their photos taken like mug shots with their serial number on display, they then have their first night in the dorms which has traces of STRIPES in it but a bit more serious. They then go onto the rest of the story line where "Washington" who has an hidden agenda is scouting and gathering information for drug supply in the states (this is some thing I had not seen in any movie until American Gangster).
The battle scenes are well done and the pace of the film starts steady and keeps you wanting to watch there are also some nice moments in it like when they are sent to a village and find it is empty and so blow a million dollars worth of munitions on a air strike and artillery barrage and sit back and watch the war.
This film has elements from a lot of army/Vietnam films such as stripes, full metal jacket, Biloxi blues and hamburger hill all of which came after.
All in all this this a Great film, if you liked full metal jacket you will like this one and it would idealy be purchased with full metal jacket.

The Boys in Company C 16 Jun 2010
Format:DVD
The Boys in Company C is a superb movie which takes a group of teenagers from the safety of the USA to the horrors of the Vietnam War. I first saw this film when it initially came out and would put it on a parr with Full Metal Jacket (FMJ), although this didn't get the publicity. The drill Sergeant from Full Metal Jacket is in this film which is alleged to be the forerunner to FMJ.

A wide variety of teenagers arrive at the Marine base to begin basic training, some are drafted, some volunteer and some join up to have money and make money by smuggling drugs back to the States. The latter is Washington a young black man who during his time in the Marines changes from potential drug runner to a career Marine leading his men.

If you like good, gritty war films that have good acting, the characters are well portrayed and you feel an association with the characters, then you'll love the Boys in Compnay C. It's an excellent film!

The Original 29 May 2009
Format:DVD
Right, first of all, this movie is the original Vietnam movie. Thanks to this film Oliver Stone made Platoon and Kubrick made Full Metal Jacket, that alone signifies just how good this movie is. It is from the late seventies so the quality is NOT HD, lets face it, this should be obvious but judging from the other reviews i guess not. Also the great Lee Ermey plays his first role in a movie since leaving the real Marines, a role that earned him a part in full metal jacket. Right now second, this doesn't really have famous actors, which is the best thing in a war film because you consentrate on the story instead of the actors. Also this film is semi biographical, which means its based on a TRUE story (For the previous reviewer, thats why it tells you about the soldiers after the film duh!!). For people who love war films and not specific actors, this is a fantastic movie. Its not very known, just like Assembly or Brotherhood which make Saving Private Ryan look like a budget film and Hamberger Hill this deserves to be in every collection.
