Two thirds of this latest Boys only confirms suspicions aroused by the subpar Highland Laddie. Verbose, gratuitous and largely pointless it waffles through an alarming amount of pages, moving the story along not an inch.
Most of the material is spent on nothing more than going over backstory hinted at in previous issues- something I'm sure most readers had already put together anyway. There's nothing particularly revelatory there at all. Having it all spelled out, apart from being vaguely patronising, kind of destroys a lot of the mystique.
Having said all that, the writing does eventually pull it's socks up and the final portion gets pretty good again, beginning to go into Butcher's character more.
This series is really sailing close to the wind now. After such a great beginning it now seems to be really struggling, with the writing dragging things out to ridiculous lengths and some decidedly ropey artwork in places. I'll be getting the next one as I'd like to see how it ends, but can't help but feel that the damage has already been done.

Finally! 15 Mar 2012

You are told the story of Butcher, the heart and brain behind the Boys. His rage, malice and constant thirst for revenge is explained extensively.

This volume closes off the loop of each of the Boys' members. Butchers' story is also told by none other than himself, which at least I feel, finally gives any insight on how his mind works and what he cares for in this world.

If you are a fan of The Boys you have probably already read this, however, if you haven't it's a must-read. This number is definitely a stepping stone towards the big finale that we have been promised for a few months - and based on this story, I'm looking forward to seeing how things are going to pan out in the next volume.

I found the last two books of 'the boys' the most interesting of the lot. I found that its focus on character development and intrigue more interesting than some of the middle volumes. I am looking forward to the next installment

Disappointing.
I've been a fan of Ennis' "The Boys" for quite some time, however whilst the artwork is still high quality this release feels a little flatter than the others. Read more
