Amazon.co.uk Review

Fifteen year old Annabel Bairstow (otherwise known as "Barbie-Brain") is dreading the long hot summer ahead until the handsome, self-confident and rather exotic (well, he's American) arrives on the scene. Amid the upheaval of her parents' recent divorce, Annabel soon discovers that there are somethings she can change, and before long she is on a mission to get exactly what she wants--and needs.

Veronica Bennett's fast-paced, touching and indeed, at times, raucous account of one girl's summer is well-written, beautifully observed and filled with classic teen angst and adventure. As Annabel gets to grips with her own troubled life and discovers a new and exciting future where, rather than just waiting for things to happen to her, she can take control for herself The Boy Free Zone comes into its own with a wry observational streak that brings it well and truly back down to earth.

Not exactly brain surgery, but certainly something for avid teens to get their teeth into, The Boy Free Zone doesn't take itself too seriously, but is a cut above many a teen read. Age 12 and over --Susan Harrison --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

Fifteen-year-old Annabel "Barbie Brain" Bairstow and her best friend Lucy are facing the long summer holiday without enthusiasm. What's the use of being the best-looking girls in town when there are no boys to notice them? Then Sebastian appears...Seventeen years old, handsome, self-confident, Sebastian is the son of local businessman Frank Houseman, a close friend of Annabel's mother. Brought up in America by his aunt and uncle, Sebastian is visiting England for the first time. His sudden arrival has the impact of a bombshell on the boy-free zone. Already trying to come to terms with her parents' divorce, Annabel finds herself confronted by some alarming surprises. Perhaps most surprising of all, though, is the discovery of the power that lies in her own hands...

This is an amazing book about the relationship between two teenagers; Sebastian and Annabel. Both teenagers are from different backgrounds, but their futures are linked. During their time together they help each other to come to terms with the past and the present. But more importantly what will the future hold for them and the people that they care about? This summer will change the lives of many people, but, how many hearts will be broken and how many tears will be shed, and will any hearts heal by the end of the summer? This is my favourite book in the world, and when you read it I am sure that you will love it just as much as me!
