Book Description

15 Feb 2007

Richard McCann's account of his childhood became a massive UK bestseller. In it he told the harrowing story of how he and his sisters were left motherless when the Yorkshire Ripper killed his first victim, Richard's mother Wilma McCann. Just A Boy was praised for its unflinching and unself-pitying account of a neglected childhood at the hands of an abusive father and uncaring authorities.

The Boy Grows Up is an account of how Richard used the success of Just A Boy to try and save his sister, and of his attempts to make sense of his past whilst learning more about the effects of traumatic childhoods and loss.

Hello there,
I heard about this book on radio 2 on my way to work and even though I think the book is interesting , it never seems to delve into the lives of Richards other 3 sisters , only Sonia, who have also lost their mother also..........and what did they feel about growing up without there mother.

Already read 1st book. Just read this on holiday and loved it. It's such an easy read. I don't read a great deal but love the easy style it's written in.
Richard McCann is an inspiration and is so determined which gives you that boost too when you need it!! I've also got the Ican book from him doing a presentation at my sons school.
