For starters this represents amazingly good value for money - there are 20 or so songs on each cd and there are some absolute stone cold classic garage tracks on there too. The overall quality is good it has to be said and there are some seering tracks overflowing with bad-attitude guys who either sucked too many wine gums when they were kids or who have been done wrong by their girls!! If you've never heard "Don't tread on me", "5 years ahead of my time", "Action Woman" or "Time Machine" then this box set is essential - the sound quality is poor on a handful of tracks but is generally as clean as you'd want it. This box set also comes with a nice little booklet which gives a biography of each group and boy are some of them obscure - this type of cd is the only way you'll ever get to hear their music. This represents a brilliant introduction to this musical genre and even held some pleasant surprises for me too. Highly recommended for anyone with a liking for fuzz guitar and psych effects.

Punkadelic mayhem 13 Feb 2006
Format:Audio CD
Anyone unfamiliar with 60's psych-punk just NEEDS to check this one out... Without this stuff there would have been NO punk and new wave. At all. Ever. Yowza.
Definitive and extremely rockin stuff throughout; if you ever liked that Sonics tune on an ad or wondered where the Fall got half their arrogance, there really is no better place to start.
Until you've heard a French-Canadian cover of "Purple Haze", you haven't lived, and if that ain't a darn good reason to part with yer readies then there is no hope for you.

No, not THAT garage 10 Oct 2003
Format:Audio CD
If you are interested in finding out more about garage, psych and freakbeat but have hesitated over buying either of the excellent 4 CD 'Nuggets' compilations, the wonderful Past & Present 10 CD 'Rubble' sets or the 13 CD 'Mindrocker' box on the grounds of price, then this 5-star bargain is the one for you.

'Action Woman', 'Psychotic Reaction', 'Five Years Ahead of my Time', 'Green Fuzz', 'Voices Green and Purple', 'I'm a Living Sickness' are all cornerstones of the garage heritage, and you could DJ a very respectable club night using this 5 CD set alone.

Begin your search for the perfect garage scream here - you'll soon know one end of a Farfisa from a Teardrop, and rush out to get a bowl cut, an op art shirt, cuban heeled boots and a pair of wrap-round shades. Dig it!
