5.0 out of 5 stars great book! 18 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I stumbled across this author by chance, glad I did. Downloaded the book this morning and having been unable to put it down, finished it in three hours. I have already downloaded the next two.
I have always read the likes of King, Koontz, Masterton and Herbert and Brian Harmon is a little bit of all of these rolled into one.

It's probably a good idea not to have any preconceived ideas about The Box because it's a hard novel to classify and certainly not one I'd place directly into the horror genre. It's more dark adventure spiced up with light erotica and reminded me of the movie 'The Labyrinth' - but for adults.

There are only two lead characters, puzzle fan Albert Cross and his 'friend' Brandy, the plot begins quite simply; one finds a box and one finds a key.

The box in question is quite a mystery. It turns up out of the blue in Albert's car and on closer inspection it's covered in encrypted messages. The pair are so enthralled they set about decoding the messages which leads them deeper and deeper into labyrinth territory, underground, to explore the old infrastructure below the city.

As they travel through these long forgotten, haunted?, passages their moods and inner desires are greatly influenced. A moment of lust sees them lose their clothes and from that point they spend a huge chunk of the novel wandering around naked and in series danger!. They only have one chance to escape and that chance depends on solving the remaining riddle of 'The Box'.

Did I enjoy the read?. To be honest; not greatly. There are some interesting, intriguing, aspects to the plot but the delivery is certainly poor in parts. My major criticism has to be the ending because it's so rushed the author appears to be is a hurry to finish. Not the best thing I've read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice story but not adult reading. 3 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have always been a great fan of horror novels since I started reading them as a boy in the early fifties and over the years have amassed a large collection, mainly paperback copies and I am now replacing those available as e-books with Kindle Editions. This re-organisation has also given me the chance to revisit books that I have not read for a while and try out authors that are new to me. I had not previously discovered this author's novels until I recently found them in the Amazon catalogue by sheer accident.

I do not believe that a reviewer should recount the storyline and spoil the enjoyment for future readers other than to say that the tale is well written and easy to read and i completed it in a single night, mainly because I always try to finish books that I have started.

My guess is that this book is really aimed at the teenage demographic and although it has a nice storyline, it did not really hold my interest completely. My 14 year old granddaughter has since read it and related to it more that I.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointing. 29 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
For a free eBook this novel is okay but two things put me off. The first was the fact that the two main characters were running around naked for most of the novel, which made it seem a bit of a young boy's wet dream. The second was the ending, which was blunt and left me feeling a little cheated.
Ignoring these points I found the book well written (if a little wordy in places) with an interesting storyline.
