5.0 out of 5 stars The Boss Throne 26 Aug 2006
Format:Paperback
This is a book that will be enjoyed by anyone who appreciates an engaging fantasy novel.

Our hero, Badad, the last of the Druids, is on a quest to bring a warring people together. Again you say? How many books of this genre have we read along these lines?

Yes, but in this novel our hero is not perfect and has to undertake some dubious tasks in this quest, and that is what makes this novel completely different.

None of the characters are completely black and white, which makes them so much more interesting. The story romps along at a brisk pace and, best of all, there is not one irritating character in the entire book!

Mr Hixon writes with the confidence of an experienced novelist and I was surprised to learn that this is his first! I hope that this will be the first in the series, as I would really like to see how these characters develop.

It is rare that I find a book that I just cannot put down - I read this in two sittings - and I have never been moved to write a review before, but this was excellent and I would recommend it to all.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantasy? ...or for real? 10 Jan 2007
Format:Paperback
a new and unfamiliar world soon accelerates to an absorbing tale of suspense and wonder,of conflict and emotion. strong and volatile portraits are skilfully crafted by the author so that i quickly came to suspend my disbelief and accept the magical world for real. this is the author's first book; i sincerely hope it wont be his last.

4.0 out of 5 stars fans of fantasy fiction 19 Jan 2007
Format:Paperback
I enjoyed reading this book very much. I am a fan of fantasy fiction and found this story to be very interesting and different from other novels in the genre. The story starts off a bit slow, hence the loss of one star, but by chapter three all the characters have been introduced and the scenario set and from then on the action moves along at a fast, exciting pace. It was refreshing to have a main character who is not perfect or heroic, and the other characters complimented the story very nicely indeed. The writing is very clear and the narrative flows nicely.

The story does challenge the reader a little but I enjoyed trying to fathom it out, and the twist at the end was unexpected and brought the story to an end whilst leaving scope for another book in the series. I do hope GWHixon brings these characters back, those who survive the first book anyway, because I would be interested to see what happens to them next.

Overall The Boss Throne is a thouroughly entertaining and thought-provoking read for fans of fantasy fiction and I enjoyed it a great deal. I look forward to reading the sequal.
