A 'must' for any racing enthusiast. The book is well written and is supported by informative and meaningful illustrations.
An insight into Gordon Richards is supplied via the balanced views of many of the people who worked for him and were associated with him during his life. They all seemed to have their own opinions and methods of dealing with him; a common theme of 'respect' is however always evident.
There is some repetition in the content; this is understandable because the information is often delivered from different perspectives. Those inevitable, yet annoying typing errors are few and far between and the book is an easy, yet compelling read.
Prior to reading the book I had seen Gordon Richards in person and also had the opportunity to view several television interviews that he took part in. Any impressions I had of the man were corrected from the portrayal supplied so eloquently in the book.
Be prepared to be entertained, amused and often saddened by the insight into an extremely dedicated and often 'difficult to handle' man.
The horses came first in many ways!
