The key elements with any successful production are correct casting and an excellent script. The Booze Cruise series is a perfect example of how it should be done. All the characters are well defined and well acted, which give the series it's credibility. Each DVD can stand alone, but is equally enjoyable as a series. The main character, Dave, so beautifully portrayed by Mark Benton, is the link between all the friends, in their shared adventures. The Booze Cruise itself is a gem--I laugh every time I watch it. It never fails to please. I was sorry that Martin Clunes' character, Clive, the well-spoken & well-heeled neighbour, was missing from the next two stories. I needn't have been, as the late Ian Richardson makes his appearance as an oily crook, firstly in The Treasure Hunt, a charity car rally over hill & dale. His silken voice instantly recognisable, his treachery finally uncovered in The Scattering. Throughout the entire series, the relationship between all the friends/neighbours/mistress/wives, is beautifully crafted and superbly acted. I could so easily fall for the smooth talking Rob, be just as irritated at Brian Murphy's stuffy character as Grace, his long-suffering wife, and see the good in both Rob's wife and his mistress. Dave's wife, the lovely, kindly Cath, who never got her Cinzano in the first DVD, takes full marks as the friend or neighbour we'd all like to have. Good fun all round and very highly recommended!!
