Two brothers (from the McManus family) decide to rid Boston of its mobsters - one by one. A local cop (Defoe) tries to track them down and stop the systematic killing. But then the Detective begrudgingly thinks - maybe the Irish boys are doing him and the city he loves a genuine favour? "The Boondock Saints" was so well received - it even spawned a sequel nearly a decade later...

However - fans of this gritty thriller will see that there are two versions of this film. And they should also note that the 'Unrated Director's Cut' out of Denmark is the BLU RAY to buy. Unfortunately the 20th Century Fox 'US' release is REGION A LOCKED - so it will not play on the vast majority of our machines unless they're chipped to be 'all regions' (which most aren't).

Although the Danish issue has foreign language all over its box - it's REGION B - and therefore will play the English film on our machines...no problem...

With not much hope of an actual UK release - the Euro option is the way to go...

This movie is probably the biggest surprise ever. I expected a standard action movie with little in the way of originality. For whatever reason it was not shown at the cinemas in my country, that alone is usually a bad sign.
Those that enjoyed "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" would probably like this one too. They are both similar in the way that they are action-movies where characters and dialogue are more important than special effects and massive shoot-outs("The Matrix" is typical).
To cut it short it's about two irish-american brothers that believe they're on a mission from God. That mission is more or less to put bullets through every criminal they cross. It doesn't matter if it's russian or italian mob, or simply street-walking scum, they will all get a bullet sooner or later.
The story is straightforward, it's the way it's told that sets it apart. The dialogue is great, the characters also(especially Defoe as an eccentric FBI-agent). The scene where the brothers meet the hitman called "Il Duce" is just awesome. It may be bloody sometimes, but it doesn't matter cause it's always funny to watch.
It might not be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's arguably one of the funniest movies since the old Monty Python Classics.

I watched some of the second film but din,t really like it much but then I through i start by watching the first film and see if I could get into them.
When I brought this I did not know that I had Order the German version of film but I managed to watch the film the audio language is in English but it had Dutch Subtitles but I managed to turn them off and then I could sit and enjoy the film. The only thing I don,t like about this version of the film is how small the screen is I don,t if its just for this DVD but its very annoying when the film does not have widescreen anyway I got used to the screen and began watching it. This a aright action movie the acting was decent and like Willem Dafoe in the movie he played his part well.

I do think this film could of been a bit better ok so rather than have the good guys shoot up the place kill bad guys then the police show up and do all their detective work it was the other way round it built up a scene of the two brother ready to go in guns blazing then it cuts and goes to the after match of the film this I din,t like just as I was getting pumped for a full on action scene boom Detective going to work it would of worked better if it was the other way but half way in to the film this stops and it gets down to the action this is what picked up the movie for me.

Overall It not the best action movie but I did enjoy the film and those who are fan of action give it a watch Im looking forward to watching The Boondocks Saints 2 and see if enjoy it the second time round and to see if its any better than the first.

I would give this four stars as I enjoyed the last half of the movie.

Two very catholic brothers go on a kind of death wish killing spree, taking out the local mob and generally bad gangsters.

Full of violence, bad language and an exploding cat, this is tainted with humour, stylish gun shoot outs and a very original story telling device.

Some argued it was a rip off of Tarantino style of film making, which is somewhat justified, but it resembles a lot of movies in it's own way.

If your a fan of fitment style gangster films with frenetic energy this is for you, think of a movie like Smoking aces or Pulp Fiction and itbkind of falls in between that genre.

It's fast, violent, stylish and filled with dark humour.

The most surprising thing is how low budget the film makers had, as the action scenes, being mostly gun shoot outs are really well done rivalling some much bigger budget films of the time.

Add excellent performances from all the cast and this is well worth the time to watch.

Not perfect, it's far fetched, slightly repetitive at times, as it uses a gimmicky flash back sequence on a lot of the crimes the two lead brothers get up to, but none the less it delivers solid entertainment.

The sequal is as good if not better.
