Product Description

Product Description

This is a comprehensive introduction to the craft of bookmaking. It takes the traditional basic skills of bookbinding and combines them with contemporary techniques which will enable every reader to create beautiful works of art. There is an exciting array of innovative approaches to this time-honoured handicraft, and many of these are sampled here, showing you the exciting forms a book can take. From albums and journals to notebooks and gift pieces, the book is valued here as a medium for artistic expression as well as function. The projects will allow you to create books that are blank portfolios for inserting photographs, artworks, and specially chosen words, or books that are decorative works of art using the basic form as a foundation. The book is divided into two sections, the first of which takes you through all the necessary materials and basic techniques, with inspirational examples in full-colour to fire your imagination. The second section includes ten unique projects that use the techniques developed earlier.

I love this book, and would recommend it. I was aware of the US version regarding suppliers etc, but was fortunate enough to receive the UK version. (Might be worth checking other suppliers before ordering...?) Anyway....this book is clear in its instruction - and its ALL about the INSTRUCTION. What you do with the end result is up to you. (I have always been tempted by pretty book covers, and drooled like mad over the finished products inside. This can be quite overwhelming and somewhat disheartening if you feel your projects don't quite make the grade.)

This book simply instructs you how to make various styles of books.

Its as straightforward as that.

this is an excellent book covering all the basics. with the projects covering a wide range of possiblites for what to do with your new found skills and with some interesting variations. If you can only afford one book on book binding then this is the one for you. This book is ecactly the same as the larger Bookworks book bar two pages and they are not really important
