4.0 out of 5 stars A good introduction 23 Jan 2012
By Wato
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a good introduction to the book of Revelation. If you are a New Testament scholar, you will probably have a good debate with it. It is however, a good introduction to help assist with beginning to consider this interesting and difficult book.

Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Bought this as a gift for a friend who was having problems with timelines & order of events in this, often frightening & confusing book of The Bible. She was delighted with it & had thought it very funny that I had warned her that I meant no insult in choosing the gift for her(Given the title) She is very pleased with it & admits how helpful it is & would & has recommended it to others

4.0 out of 5 stars Dummies - book of revelations[BOR] 6 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
despite being easy reading style it will take a lot of extra time to get through it all though i suspect not very much of it is immediately relevant to the world today right now: Nov 2011.

scholars of BOR should also watch the Ch4TV (or was it Ch5TV) documentary "The curse of the Omen(1976 film)" in which the internet symbol is interpreted thus "www"="666".

the 144000 Jews(BOR) who are to be ultimately saved by JC could be "The Jews for Jesus" movement who are currently badly persecuted and harrassed in Israel by right-line ultra right extremist. JC has always been viewed, post-1948 (qv return to zion), as the ultimate blasphemy(/er).

Items not explored by this book [2008] are:
1. another theory is that the anti-Christ was born at 6am on 6t June 2006AD - if so he's being well looked after and protected by satanists right now. so allow him about 30 years post gestation period (qv JC) before he emerges for 3 years of mayhem before you know who arrives to finish the job(ie the little jobbie) off permanently.

2. 1st Jan 2000 is the start of the 3rd Millenia. Famine (qv Over-population) is epidemic already. Iran (lying about building its nuclear bomb(s) and missiles) is deliberately provoking Israel and America(UK is sycophant to USA foreign policy since Thatcher's rule) into a WW3 type scenario. The worlds private banks are virtually all out of control in a quest for money worship. The BOR's heads almost certainly refers to the EEC.

3. world's economy now far too over-reliant or dependent on internet and computer technology for commerce, trade, banking etc to go back to pre-1995 days.

but a summary of this book's main points would have been helpful as a final chapter.
so we do live in privileged times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Reference 19 Oct 2011
By LK in Alaska - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was skeptical about ordering this book as I wondered if they would insert a specific theological viewpoint into the discussion and try to lead me down a path to a conclusion. The opposite is true. This book has been a great reference help for me in understanding the ins and outs of Revelation. I particularly appreciated the many Old Testament and other New Testament references that help to explain certain figurative language in this book. I would recommend this for anyone who is interested in learning more about Revelation - expert and novice alike. There's something for everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Book of Revelation For Dummies 24 Feb 2013
By William F. Bellais - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I can recommend this book for anyone not familiar with the origins and background to the last book of the Christian Bible. Knowing about the form of ancient writing known as apocalyptic literature is important and helps the reader understand what the message is and for whom it was written. Further, this text helps the reader see the Hebrew Bible and other ancient connections to this form of literature. Once, someone told me he understood every book of the Bible except the Book of Revelation. My response was, "If you understand the books of the prophets--especially Ezekiel and Daniel--you should understand Revelation. Reading this book for dummies will help make the connections. It is easy to read and to follow. The book may make fundamentalists unhappy.
