Product Description

Product Description

“Nothing special” is the best way to describe Owen Reeder—at least that's what he's been told all his life. When a stranger visits his father's bookstore, Owen's ordinary life spirals out of control and right into a world he didn't even know existed. Owen believes the only gift he possesses is his ability to devour books, but he is about to be forced into a battle that will affect two worlds: his and the unknown world of the Lowlands. Perfect for readers ages 10 to 14 who enjoy a fast-paced story packed with action, fantasy, and humor.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only got it for the Grandchildren 30 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Kept one of the grandchildren quite for a few minutes but looks like they like real books - not the kindle types. Maybe they like to play with books not read yet.

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A good story, suitable for all ages even though rated as a young persons book. It is quick paced with lots of action. Many people could relate to Owen and how he feels rejected by society but is aware of an inner strength

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy and Christianity; A hard fence to straddle 27 Mar 2008
By Big Dog - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Trying to add to the church library, I was curious about this series of books. We have found ourselves in a two party camp of those who love Harry Potter and see nothing wrong with the fantasy novels and the others who feel that magic and Christianity don't have a place together.

As the Youth Director I would love to have something to offer my kids and feel good about the options. The Book of the Kings does have some mythical creatures and mysterious people who are not of our human world. There is clear symbolism of The Book of Kings and the Bible and the more the hero reads and knows the stronger he becomes.

The true test came from the kids. They were excited to read and want more novels as soon as I can get them. The parents were happy to see the kids interest in something other than HP. The hero, Owen Reeder, is a loveable character who feels alien in his everday life. Isn't that how every kid feels? It was nice to have a Christian novel to be able to offer to our church kids.

The book holds your interest and is a fun light read. It's nice to have alternatives. If this was a food I would say it was a nice Sugar Free substitute. I will be reading the rest of the series to see what happens to Owen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Magical Read for Christians 14 Aug 2011
By P. Creeden - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
As a homeschooling Mom, I'm always looking for books for my son, who reads about as avidly as I do. When I found this book, I bought the whole series for my son for Christmas 2 years ago. I read them myself right away, and found them a bit weak in the writing, but the story was fairly good. (No Harry Potter, to be sure)

But then this summer, my son, now 11 read them. HE LOVED THEM! He read the whole series straight through in about a week. He couldn't get enough of them, liking them better than Harry Potter.

Well, there's no accounting for taste, but it is what it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Must Read 7 Sep 2008
By G. Silvers - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The book was slow in the beginning but it was necessary to set the story. It was awesome and very hard to put it down. It is a must read for anyone who loves heroes and loves to see good win over evil. I read the first three books in one weekend. I gave it to my daughter (age 11) to read and she loved them. It is also a mystery that you cant wait to see unravel. I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy and mystery.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Blend of Fantasy and Christianity for Readers of All Ages 4 Oct 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
To be honest, I didn't know what to expect from this book. I love the Left Behind series, and I've read and devoured some of The Red Rock Mysteries by Jerry B. Jenkins, but this book was different than anything else I'd ever read by him. The mix of fantasy, history and Bible fascinated me, and I couldn't read it fast enough.

Owen Reeder is a boy with a destiny. The only problem is he has no idea of that destiny. As far as he knows, he's just a simple boy with an uncaring father, an unknown mother, and a store full of old books as his only friends. Small and unpopular, Owen has problems at school and finds comfort within the pages of his books. That is, until one day, he's introduced to a book like none he's ever seen. Compelled by its message, Owen takes the book and unknowingly unlocks the mystery of his destiny. A far-away world. Peril at every turn. Can Owen conquer his own fears in order to complete the quest set before him?

Unfortunately, this book won't answer that question. Since it is the first in the series, the book leaves the reader with many unanswered questions and even more theories. To find out more, you must read the rest of the series, so if you're looking for a quick read, this may not be the book for you. For I promise you, once you began this quest with Owen, you'll not want to turn back until all is revealed.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some more reading to do!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book 25 Jan 2008
By The King's Academy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The Book of the King is an amazing book. It is about a young boy's struggle as an outcast who discovers a past he never knew about. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy with a biblical twist. It is a thriller and you will never be able to put it down.
