5.0 out of 5 stars The Book of Joshua by Tanya Mendonsa 11 Dec 2012
This is a compelling book from start to finish and it is not only dog lovers who will adore it, as the cover might suggest. The story is dramatically enhanced by the author's journey from a materialistic world to one beyond most people's wildest dreams. Her powerful descriptions of the natural beauty surrounding her home in the blue mountains of Nilgiris, India, are entwined with a deep love of animals; in particular for Joshua, the main character; a love which surpasses all others. A chance meeting leads the author to finding her human soul mate and this adds a very interesting dimension. Together, with their animals, the couple discover the kind of peace and serenity that evades most people in today's chaotic world. Readers may well be left with a vision of packing their bags and riding off into the sunset. If that is out of the question, it would seem that becoming the owner of a lovable Cocker Spaniel would quite likely lift the spirits no end!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exotic dog lover's delight 11 Sep 2013
In `the book of Joshua' the author reveals the hardships, joys and outright satisfaction involved in taking care of the `under dogs' of the world. Set in exotic locations where heaven and hell co-exist, it gives an intimate insight into the fringes of their world. The author seems to have gained understanding of the characters and motivations of her canine acquaintances through immersion into their world. She seems to feel privileged to have had these close associations as do the many dogs that have been fortunate enough to cross her path. They are, after all among the most appreciative creatures on the planet when properly treated by right minded people. A great read for dog lovers everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Book of Joshua by Tanya Mendonsa 18 Dec 2012
By Mrs. B. Oldmeadow - Published on Amazon.com
The cute photo on the cover of this book makes it irresistible, in particular to dog lovers! But there is much more to this book than initially meets the eye. The author writes movingly about the mutual love she shares with the main character; a love that surpasses all others. The feeling is contagious; once read, you just know that you will remember this dog for all time. The author cleverly entwines her love for animals in general, with powerful descriptions of the natural beauty surrounding her home in the blue mountains of Nilgiris, India. A chance meeting leads her to finding her human soul mate; this adds a very interesting dimension to the story as does the gourmet element! Together with their four legged friends, the couple embark on a journey away from the confines of a materialistic and chaotic world and build a life together beyond most people's wildest dreams. Not many of us would be confident enough to pack our bags and ride off into the sunset in search of a better way of life, but reading the book makes one consider the possibility. If it is out of the question, becoming an owner of a lovable Cocker Spaniel, would appear to lift the spirits no end! This is a compelling book which lends itself to a second or even third reading! Highly recommended.
