I'm not sure what I expected from this book, but it disappointed me regardless. It contains about three goon show scripts which are, as you would expect, excellent. But the rest of book felt like padding to me. It has a lot of black-and-white photos which I didn't find desperately interesting. It has a lot of correspondance amongst the Goons which may have historical significance but it all seemed much of a muchness to me and not that funny. I guess I expected a historical account of the Goons ... The book would have far less than 3 stars, it's the scripts that raised the mark.

As a Goon Show fan I really loved this book. It contains some good photos, scripts and cartoons similar to some other Goon books, but a large proportion of the book is correspondences between Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and Harry Secombe. These give a great insight into their relationship and how they lived with the Goon characters long after the show finished.
If you are not very familiar with the Goons and weren't around when they were household names, this book may not be for you as it doesn't contain much background information. But if you are a real fan of the Goon Show, it offers a brief yet wonderful glimpse into the minds of the cast members.
