Product Description

Synopsis

The concept of making cakes without eggs may sound difficult, but it is not new. Cintia Stammers has spent several years collecting, testing and refining recipes worldwide. This resulting book contains more than 200 recipes that show how imaginative egg free cakes can be. The recipes are based on the principle that "you are what you eat", leaning towards low-sugar, low fat and low cholesterol ingredients with emphasis on flavour, simplicity and health. For those who cannot eat eggs because of allergy or because they have chosen to cut them out of their diet, this should prove to be a handy book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding 26 Jun 2002
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
A brilliant book full of desserts and cakes which are all suitable for vegetarians and many for vegans. Even some of the vegetarian ones can be easily adapated, ie swapping milk for soya/rice milk.

Beautifully presented, with easy-to-read print and some pictures included. The instructions are easy to follow and concise.

The sections include sponge cakes (lots of vegan ones to try); squares, wedges & slices; fruit loaves and tea breads; gateaux and cheesecakes; puddings; small cakes; savoury cakes; everyday and special occasion fillings & icings; and adapting recipes.

The recipes are based on the principles that "you are what you eat" and aim towards low sugar, fat & cholesterol, emphasising simplicity, flavour and health.

A lot of vegetarian and vegan cooking books just have a nominal amount of dessert recipes. This one has over 200 recipes devoted entirely to cakes and desserts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Cookbook! 17 Dec 2009
Format:Hardcover
Delicious recipes! A lifesaver for vegetarians and those who do not eat eggs. The recipes are incredibly simple to follow and the outcome is absolutely delicious. Please print more of these books! It took me several months to get a hold of one, but it is well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - doesn't rely on egg-replacers 26 Nov 2005
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have lost count of the number of egg-free cookery books I have bought that rely almost entirely on egg-replacers. I feel I can follow the instructions on the side of the egg replacer packet myself.

This book however is different - it is egg-free and relies entirely on substitution of other ingredients eg soured yoghurt. It also produces the closest thing you can get to a cake with eggs (sadly you can never get anything quite as meltingly delicious as a cake with eggs).

The book contains recipes, a really good guide to how to put together your own substitutions and most importantly how to pick up the pieces if it all goes wrong!
