This is an immediately attractive hardback book, beautifully presented and with a dust cover. The indigo sky with golden stars and moons contrasts with the clear white surround of the title and the front illustration of a peacefully sleeping child. The book will stand out amongst others in the children's books display.

It is not a book to be housed in the playbox with picture stories and paper-back favourites, but to be allocated a special space on a high shelf, ready to be brought down specially for an adult to read at bedtime. I hope it will not be produced in paper back because it will then be less likely to serve this function.

I enjoyed opening this book, the feel of the good quality paper, the variety of illustrations. I imagine the child wanting to be the one to turn the next page, but carefully.

These ten stories were those chosen by Michael Rosen from the twenty on the short-list in a competition that had more than four hundred entries. Each one is written by an unpublished author; each one is illustrated by a new young artist. Therefore, the book represents twenty talents fresh to the children's book market.

Toddlers approaching two years and youngsters not too far from independent reading are all catered for in this volume.

The opening story opens appropriately on a story about reluctance to go to bed. It is suitable for tinies and may become a calming favourite as they become pre-schoolers. The cuddly baby illustrations are similar to those of Shirley Hughes.

The next story features a cow who sneakily finds a way to jump over the moon. Although the solution is not original, the telling is just right for the four-year-old, while the distinctive style of the illustrations will attract all ages.

This is a nice collection of bedtime stories, which were chosen from a competition on Mumsnet and Gransnet to find ten stories by unpublished authors. Michael Rosen was involved in the selection process and also introduces the book, which is beautifully illustrated and designed. So many bedtime collections contain old favourites and fairy tales, so it is nice to have a collection of new stories. It would have been nice to have had some information on the authors, but the collection will appeal to both boys and girls and to children from approx 2 - 7. "Time for Bed," is a favourite of my little nephew, while my own daughter loves, "Celeste, Who Sang to the Stars," best. However, there will something to appeal to all children in this lovely collection. Turn that television off and give your child a bedtime story and happy dreams!

I bought this book for my little girl as one of the illustrators is a friend of mine and wanted it to keep, but have to say all the stories and illustrations are beautifully done. Lovely short stories for the perfect bedtime read

There were 10 stories and I thought 8 were rally good, the other two were a little odd and out in left field. Having said that I would buy the next edition.
