A fabulous feast for the eyes and the pallette. The book has gorgeous pictures of Bollywood stars and some of their favourite recipes. And if you can take your eyes off the Indian "dishes" (pun intended) then you can read the excellent commentary on the Indian film industry written by Bulbul.
The star trivia that she so engagingly provides gives a little insight into the stars memories and relationship with their food. A delightful and mouth-watering angle on the otherwise overcooked Bollywood theme!
Even if you are not a big fan of Indian cooking, the book will look really good on the cofee table for a long time to come.

This is a really beautifully produced book on two of my favourite subjects (food and film). It combines a solid Indian cookbook with the look and feel of a coffee table book and has a real air of quality about it.
After a brief Foreword by Shyam Benegal, 'Inside Bollywood' is a short chapter which provides an overview of the genre so that even the uninitiated can get themselves quickly up to date. (Although having had their appetites whetted by this book, readers won't remain Bollywood virgins for long.)
What follows are the delicious recipes, listed in sections by the Bollywood star that contributed them, and preceded by a brief biography of the contributor and their culinary tastes.
The recipes, which cover both classics of, and modern twists on, Indian cuisine, are mostly straightforward to cook, and accompanied by divine food photography. There are quite a large number of lamb dishes, but vegetarians are also well catered for, and a few sweet recipes are included as well. Some of the meals require specialist ingredients, but even those outside of India should be able to access these from an asian supermarket. And there are recipes from across the whole country, including 'Pao Bhaji' (Bombay-style bread with spicy potatoes) from Jackie Shroff, to The Kapoors' 'Chicken Haleem', a more complicated dish which come from the aristocratic Hyderabadi cuisine. Basic recipes for masalas and breads are provided at the end.
Most of the major Bollywood stars of today are included (Kajol, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan three notable exceptions, however) and the photographs throughout the book are truly stunning - beautifully conveying the colour and glamour of the Bollywood world. The penultimate section is a chapter entitled 'Unspooling Bollywood: Classic Moments from Indian Cinema' with eye-catching reproductions of the films' posters. Finally a list of the 'Best of Bollywood', key films from 1995 to 2006, is provided, especially useful who, having gained a taste for Hindi cinema, want to plug any holes in their viewing history.
I bought this book for myself - I couldn't resist, and absolutely love it - but equally, it would make a wonderful gift for an existing Bollywood fan and will undoubtedly create fans of the future...

The book has amazing pictures of some of Bollywood's most popular stars and their favorite recipes - you can't go wrong...It also features a timeline of classic Bollywood movies and retro movie posters (pictures not the actual posters). I have tried most of the recipes and they turned out very good.
