All hail, Andrew martin. I mean really hail him, get down on ver knees and give ver boy a good hailing. Because with this book he has done something that so many other writers are trying and failing to do at the moment. That is write about small time criminals convincingly in a tale that keeps you gripped because you're on their side. Some of the seediest characters you could ever ask for and not just the dazzlers themselves but also the; well, I'm not sure that victim is the right word but the pseudo northern toff that is "Butteridge" is just an inspired creation. I can not recommend this book enough!!!

Andrew Martin's dry Yorkshire voice is strong in this tale of the criminal world operating within a twee York backdrop. The characters are believable and the juxtaposition is a smart one. The story is both funny and dark, which is very much Martin's style, along with his attention to detail in the characters' speech patterns.

Bobby Dazzlers 2 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback
The characters are too unattractive to finish the book. There has to be some redeeming feature in a personality and some positive attitude even in the grimmest and most monosyllabic individual to make his fate of interest, and there is none here.
