Aah the Bluetones.. I used to hate the Bluetones, actually make that I hated Slight Return as when it came out it was played ALL THE TIME by the radio station I worked for then.. familiarity breeding contempt and all that. Subsequently an American friend got me into the band via the Last Chance Saloon LP, and since then I've seen them I don't even remember how many times, and last night was reminded of the genius of Mark Morriss at his solo gig. Which brings me to this collection. If it's trying to appeal to the fans who love the "greatest hits" there are too many missing to go down that avenue (Marblehead Johnson & Cut Some Rug were both top 10 yet neither appear here), plus that's already been covered by the Singles album. And also the "Rough Outline" set, which brings me to the next point - there is nothing here that's not on that collection either. So this is basically a cut down Rough Outline, so if you're after a "few" hits, coupled with some album tracks & b sides, this is as good a place to start as any. Ideally though you'll go for A Rough Outline instead, or even better just buy the original albums - then you get the whole experience. Then buy A Rough Outline anyway, for the B sides/non album tracks, and your experience is complete. Voila!
